Why you should buy a Laser Printer

Updated on June 4, 2013

We all hate throwing away money for more and more ink cartridges, and investing in a Laser Printer could be your solution to saving lots of money.  It is coming to the point where you get robbed every time you run out of ink, but there is a simple and efficient solution to this problem.  With the advancement of laser printer technology, these printers are becoming cheaper making it a great time to upgrade to a laser.

Today, you can get an ink printer for next to nothing, but most people do not take into account the cost it takes to maintain an ink printer. Ink printers are so cheap because the company's profit margin is made through ink, rather than the printers. When I had an ink printer, I was constantly buying ink cartridges about 50 dollars a piece. Considering I was running out of ink ever four months or so, I was spending a whooping 200 dollars a year just on ink. The beauty of a laser printer is the fact that they do not use ink cartridges, but rather a beam that projects an image onto a piece of paper. What this means is you can print over and over again, and not have to use expensive inks. Laser printers are perfect for college students, as they allow for large amounts of printing at a very low cost. Generally, you will save around 800 dollars over a span of four years with a laser printer as opposed to an inkjet. You can find a quality laser printer for around 200 dollars which is higher than an inkjet, but do not forget about pricey ink. HP has a great selection of personal laser printer at great prices.  The HP Laser Jet Pro P1100 cost around 149.99 and has a great wireless feature so you can print easily from your laptop.

Doing things fast and effectively is very important in today's society, and your printer is no exception. Laser printers print much faster than inkjets, and saving time is very important in making due dates. I will never forget the time I was finished an American History Essay, and when I tried to print it the night before it was due, my printer ran out of ink. This is a horrible situation to be in, and is another great reason to have a laser printer. The printing also gets done faster. It may not seem like that big of a deal to save a few minutes printing papers, but when you are constantly printing large essays it does. Constantly going to get cartridges is a real pain in your wallet, and your routine.

The ink printer industry has created an environmental problem due to the vast usage and disposal of ink cartridges. Ink cartridges are non-biodegradable, which means if they find there way into a landfill they will set there for years without decaying. Not only this, they also contain chemicals that can be very harmful to the environment. These chemicals can seep into the ground water, mixing with other chemicals, and even contaminating other bodies of water like the Ocean and even drinking water. With the risk of irresponsible disposal, ink can find its way into our coffee and fish we eat.  We are also wasting resources by making these cartridges. Made out of metal and petroleum, this is contributing to the depletion of valuable and nonrenewable resources that can be put to better use by buying a laser printer. By a small thing like purchasing a laser printer, you will be help keep landfills cleaner, and reduce the use of fossil fuels.  We must do everything we can to keep our planet clean and safe.

Laser printers are a great way to save money and time by the elimination of costly ink cartridges.  They also help in the reduction of harmful chemicals into landfills, keeping our environment cleaner and healthier.  I highly recommend making the switch to save money and contribute to a greener tomorrow.

Ahem, Laser printers use toner cartridges that perhaps can hold more printstuff and last longer, but also run out and find their ways into landfills if not recycled. It's not like the laser beam is used to burn the text onto the paper.

Speed and efficiency. Inkjet is way too slow. The ink might smudge too.

I still prefer laser printers over any other kind of course! These are good points as well.

      Awesome hub, FTW!
