That is a very difficult question to answer because I use the internet every day and it has become an integral part of my life. I can remember what it was like before the internet, but that was 17 years ago for me, and was only a teenager at the time. I suspect it has both a positive and a negative effect. I can keep in touch with friends a lot better because of the internet, I can explore my interests better, satisfy my curiosity on any number of things. I can also write and get my work published with a click of a button, something which would not be possible without the internet. I can book holidays easily and cheaply, reading hotel and resort reviews to I don't have a holiday from hell. I can buy cheap books, cheap DVDs, I wouldn't be able to afford nearly as much before the internet drove down prices... and yet I can't help but wonder what my life would be like without the internet.
For one thing lets start with right now. I'm sat watching TV while writing this, thanks to the internet, laptops and a wi-fi connection. I can do two things at once, yay! Unfortunately there's a problem. Everything I watch while on the internet, I enjoy that little bit less. Or maybe a lot less. Sometimes I hardly know what is going on in programmes I'm watching while on the internet. Also, without the internet I'd probably read a lot more, go out and socialise more, perhaps do more. It is the biggest timewaster, as well as being great fun.
So it's a mixed bag. But I wouldn't want to lose it now.
