Most of the time it is not glass, it is plastic. If it is a good watch, take it to a jeweler and have the face replaced.

Scratches can't really be removed but you can get a new watch face for very little money. A temporary fix would be to rub a little olive oil into the scratch to moisten it and make it less noticeable.
