Hi Billie: I have over 13,000 followers and I get half of my views here as a result of twitter. Twitter is a community of people searching for business connections. I follow you and you follow me. More so than here on Hub Pages (which I think we could all improve and benefit by) Some people follow me for photography and some for social media. The expectation is that you will click on posts by others if there is any interest. I often re-tweet my followers gems when I see them.
How you can work twitter:
1 follow like minded people. If you write children`s books look for other writers.
2 be sure to follow back anyone who you may have even a slight interest in.
3 Post an intro to your hub and make it enticing and irresistible copy.
4 As you twitter following grows you need to tweet more often. I use Simplecast to tweet on an automated basis. It's free for most users who don't require multiple campaigns with multiple posters. Tweets are like TV commercials - gone in 1/2 a minute. Tweeting up to 4 times an hour with a large following is not unheard of.
5 Work Twitter by following a few hundred people every week with the expectation that they will follow you back. In 2-3 months you will have thousands of followers and you can guide them to your hub or any other website you want.
6 People will drop you like a hot potato if you spam. Keep it light and have lots of non business related topics as well. I can recall getting more mileage from a photography news tweet than any other post I put up. Community first and business will come.
7 if you want to post to a group (like me with photography) you add a # to a group. So I will often post "#photography" before my message. It can reach a wider audience.
If you want to check it out I have a hub post about getting a vast number of twitter followers and more details about targeting groups. Please feel free to ask me any questions on the subject
