In your opinion, what is the best virus removal software for Firefox? Explain reasons.
Some software have compatability issues. There are so many viruses these days that good protection is a high priority
There is no Av for Firefox, Firefox is an application just like any other program. A virus or Trojan infects the Operating System not an application, although it may use an application as a point of entry to the system itself.
My best cure? Use Linux.
A virus resides in the operating system on the machine, not the browser. Firefox, Chrome, Internet Explorer are all browsers. The question should be what anti-virus software should be used to eradicate and clean the virus off of the machine and not what virus removal software for Firefox. Being that there potentially could be a malicious virus, simply changing the operating system to Linus, as "Superkev" states is not the solution. The solution is to install a anti-virus program which will try to remove the virus from the system. There are many free anti-virus applications out there. However, I found that the best solution for me is Norton. Sure, you have to pay every year, but it's nothing compared to hassles when you become infected.
Personally, I like Malwarebytes for cleaning computers that are already infected with various adware, etc. Antivirus software is for the most part just reacting to new viruses. So often I find people who think they are protected because they have antivirus software on their computer that has expired. If you are not receiving new virus definitions then you are not protected from any new viruses. It would be better to have a free antivirus program than an expired one. I use Microsoft Security Essentials because it is free. But then, I am always willing to wipe out my computer and start over as well.
If you're using windows, I highly recommend Microsoft Security Essentials. It's free for all windows users and catches a surprising amount of threats. I've tried a number of different anti virus programs over the years and none have been as effective as MSE.
I use AVG and found it to be very effective. I do not totally agree that a browser cannot be infected. Adware, add on title bars and other things can make a browser act different. Technically these may not be viruses but they are irritating and can interfere with whatever work you are doing. There is also software that will change your settings such as your default browser and the level of security you have selected. Again, I will accept that these things may not fall into the virus category, but they can be a nuisance.
You are indeed correct about virus issues. Microsoft essentials is our free go to. Norton is our paid subscription. My computer has Norton. Our smaller netbooks have essentials.

Windows computers require protection from common viruses, spyware, and rootkits. A software application is needed that will monitor a system for infections, continually update itself, effectively prevent and remove infections when found, and not overly cannibalize system resources. Is Norton...
