   While my cell phone can take pictures, text and do all kinds of really neat stuff. I have deliberately selected a cell plan where I just talk. $15 a month. Want to write to me send an eMail, catch me on Facebook, but to contact me by phone, call, because that is all I do on my cell phone.

      I use my cell phone mostly for texting. I find calling a lot harder because you don't have time to think about what you're going to say. With texting, you are not pressured to talk right away and the receiver does not need to answer for it to send.

      I see my granddaughter and her friends texting while in the same room. She says it is the easiest way to have a private conversation when in a group of people.  A house rule, no phones at the dinner table. My youngest GD texts while watching TV. SIGH

   With different inernet plan and time constraint, I usually text the person I need to contact rather than calling them. I give them call only if it becomes urgent.

   Using cell phone for text or voice also depends on the situation where you generally experience. If you have liberty to answer or made the calls then you generally prefer to use voice and if one doesn't has liberty to use voice (at work place) so he may choose to text.

   I try to keep both to a minimum, but if I had to choose one, it would be texting. I actually don't like either and use my cell phone for brief contact when necessary. If it's not an emergency, notification of your ETA, cancellation or check-in 'hello' from friends or family, I'm really not a chatter or texter. I actually use email more than anything which I receive and send all day long.

   I have a pay as you go mobile phone so I don't use my mobile for talking, I use my landline phone at home for talking. I only use my mobile for an emergency call but not for talking. I use it a lot for texting my friends.

   jaydawg.....I have never (at any point in my life) been a fan of phone communication.  Anyone who really  knows me, is well aware of this.  I consider the telephone a necessity, but don't use it for idle chit chat or socializing. The sole exception to this would be calls from my sons & families who live out of State.
   The only reason I have a cell phone (tracfone) is for times I am away from home and I much prefer texting because it's a lot cheaper.  I never use it while driving and will be vocal if & when I see someone doing so.  When any communication is more important than your life or that of others, that's about as sad & ignorant as one can get.
   Obviously, when using a phone is part of one's job, this is an entirely different situation.  In these cases, phone etiquette and proper communication skills are a MUST.
   After saying all this....I guess the answer to your question is, "text!" LOL
