Awhile back I learned that when your photo is online, there is technology available now that can gather highly personal information with it, such as your social security number, etc. It's even worse if you use your real name with it. Many here at least use their real photo because they have been told it makes their work appear more "professional". Some also use their real names. Do you worry about identity theft? I do...which is why you will never see my photo or real name here.

Which is why I rarely, if ever, post personal pix or info on my FB. My Facebook is mostly Simpsons quotes, links to my HubPages, music videos and other nerdy junk that no one cares about.
Well, it happens every day. The software has been out there for this for a few years now.
Sorry, but I disagree. It might do you good to do a bit of research to see what FB tried to do awhile back (and may still be doing). Those cameras you discussed aren't on the internet...big difference.
I'd love to see the proof of software that can get our SS number from facial recognition on the internet. Do you have a link to this information you could share?
I don't think the public appreciates these FACTS
1. Facebook sells information to advertisers. This is not hidden, it has been admitted on numerous occasions.
2. Gmail sell information to advertisers, going for keywords in your posts.
Christin: If you check FB on Wikipedia you will see that FB caused a big ruckus when it implemented this technology. I think they were forced to stop using it legally, but it proves the software exists. You'll find other shocking info there, also.
I read your response with a sense of terror, clutch my copy of 1984, and realise that people are so willing to give up their freedom.
that was for tagging pictures and has nothing to do with your assertion that people can get your SS# through your pictures on FB - not the same thing. I find freedom to be not being paranoid qeyler and use adblock software.
Paranoid?. Christin this is why Edward Snowden is wanted. He exposed the information. You have heard of Edward Snowden...right?
Snowden has nothing to do with the original question that said any old person can get your SS number through a facebook picture. I didn't realize we changed the subject. IF the govt wants to track u a fake avatar and name aren't going to stop them.
Yes it does. In fact the Wikipedia info specifically stated that. Take the time to read it. The info is located in the middle of other info about FB's nasty tricks and tells about lawsuits, etc.
Timetraveler2, you and I appear to be the only people who read and/or have fully operational brains. There is a YouTube video about the 'Gmailman' who reads your mail....ahh.. The Zombie Apocalypse must have happened.
