   What path would this world have taken, if technology, as we know it, had not been developed?

      That is true If it were not cars, it could havce been horses what we could be using for transporting ourselves.

      If  man had not taken the time to think about how things work. Instead of that, humanity had developed other characteristics, such as sensory perception or teletransportation, etc....
