Backing Up Computer Files Online

Updated on August 28, 2013

Backup For Computers

I remember the day several years ago when my computer popped up the dreaded blue screen of death! I tried everything to get my computer restarted and back to working again, but nothing worked! I took my computer's hard drive to Best Buy and received the worst news, it wasn't repairable and all files were lost!!!!

I lost my oldest daughter new born pictures, a lot of family photos and videos, document files, and my music downloads. I felt like my world came crashing down in front of me!

I never knew the importances of backing up my files everytime I'm on the computer. In this lens I'll show you a way you can back up your files online so you don't go through losing them like I did.

What is Online Backup Storage?

Is My Files Safe Online?

Online Backup storage is when you back up your files on the Internet and it's securely stored on an off-site server so your data is disaster-proof.

The great advantage about this is that you can retrieve or sync your files everywhere you go. Also another good thing about online back up service is if you experience theft, fire, or any other disasters, your files are saved online so you'll always have access to them.

Question?

Do you back up your computer files?

I recently lost all my files because I didn't backup. However, I have learnt my lesson and with the backup software you recommended, no more mistakes.

      Thanks for the info.

I absolutely agreed there is a need to backup files regularly (at least once a week if not daily)! I have had an experience of harddisk crash of all of a sudden .. for no reason, it failed. And I didn't have a habit to backup back then and I lost a lot of precious data like my vacation photos, some document files that I created, scanned documents, some audio files that I recorded and etc. There was no way I can retrieve the data .. and it is a lesson learnt for me!

Backup is important! I have a local hard drive, and also important files are kept on my web host's site. HDD crashes are the worst!

This is such an important topic! I started using an online backup service after Hurricane Katrina, because it was only luck (or possibly divine intervention) that saved me from losing my work files. I use Dropbox right now but I'm going to check out MyPCBackup -- the lower price would be great.

@anonymous: I'm not for sure Benlwms. I never had an iPad before. But I believe you can only do like you said, iCloud, Dropbox, and virtual apps from iStore. Sorry I couldn't be any help.

Thanks for your info. I was wondering if you know whether there's a back up protocol for the iPad besides using iCloud, Dropbox, or any of the virtual apps. I'm somewhat of a novice with iPad and would like my files to go on flash drives if possible. Thanks.
