Best Portable 11 Inch Mini Gaming Laptops 2013

Updated on January 3, 2013

The Smallest Gaming Laptop Reviews 2013: Aka: Netbooks or Mini Notebooks

Welcome to my page! The purpose of this page is to help you find the best 11 inch gaming laptop that money can buy. It has only been in recent times that new technology has allowed manufacturers to improve and reduce the surface area of micro chips allowing big brands in the personal computer niche to bring to market a range of small form factor laptops that seriously pack a punch. These mini powerful notebooks, laptops or more widely recognised netbooks as known by most, can perform a multitude of tasks that were once only possible on larger models of laptop, especially gaming. Now with the advent of dual core & quad core processors, new video graphics chipsets from the likes of ATI & Nvdia and motherboard form factor size being smaller than ever, it was only a matter of time before the market was flooded with serious gaming laptops that would bring a smile to any serious gamers face.

What you need to look for...

My one is 11 inches!

The 11 inch market is a relatively new one in terms of gaming that has brought contenders such as the Alienware MX11 and the the recently release Origin EON11. Both primarily designed for the serious gamer in mind. Not only will cover these 2 popular choices but will cover some other choices that although they lack the punch of latter mentioned they still fare well for the casual gamer. With all that in mind there are a few things you will need to consider when looking for a good 11 inch gaming notebook, these include:

Battery Life

With more comes more use of the battery! For a serious gaming laptop you will want at least 3 - 4 hours whilst other models which are aimed at the casual gamer anywhere between 5 - 8 minimum. These numbers vary greatly, for example NVIDIA'S Optimus technology that is integrated as part of there leading graphics chipsets such as the 650m promise to provide at least 6.5 hours of gaming time, but it must be remembered these quoted numbers vary depending on many other factors at hand.

RAM (Random Access Memory)

RAM is important if you are looking for the best gaming experience possible, more so than the actual processor of the device. As a guideline, for serious gaming no less than 4GB. Some of the more powerful options have up to 16gb or more! The general rule of thumb is the more RAM the merrier which means less frame rate issues whilst playing some of the new titles on the market whilst insuring you can bump up the resolution a decent amount as well as turn on other effects providing the RAM, Processor & Graphics chipset are suitably matched.

Graphics Card (GPU)

The main driving force behind any type of laptop, without a decent GPU you will find you will be restricted to not only playing games that are in lower resolution and don't look so great or in some cases you may not be able to run some games at all due to them being so demanding and reliant on a good GPU. The 2 main manufacturers at the moment are NVIDIA & ATI, both have a number of GPU's integrated into various models of laptops, so much so that it would take more than a page to go through each and every single one of them! If your choice of 11 inch laptop has neither of these branded chipsets then it's more than likely they utilise an integrated Intel standard chipset which in all honesty won't do you any favours when it comes to gaming!

Processor (CPU)

Although not the be and and all of a good gaming setup, the processor is still rather important especially for games that rely on it tremendously. Heavy based processor titles which have a lot going on at once or use advanced physics will make the most of a fast capable processor. I recommend opting for a dual core at least if you are serious about gaming in any form. AMD & Intel are the 2 main providers of processor chip integrated into many laptops with some models utilizing a VIA chipset ( No good at all for gaming!).

Be sure to check back often as this page will be updated as new models hit the market. Enjoy. Enough of me blagging on about the boring bits, lets move onto the contenders!

Below are a selection of the best hardcore 11 inch gaming laptops of 2012. Enjoy

This is one of the best 11 inch laptops for playing games. Period. Sporting a Core 2 duo processor, a 1GB GDDR3 NVIDIA GeForce GT 335M graphics card and 4gb of RAM, the AMX11X is no slouch for those wanting a good gaming laptop that will play a variety of the latest games at an impressive resolution and speed.

First thing that strikes you is the glossy screen, personally I prefer glossy screens over matted variations and I feel the the display itself cause no concerns if playing in daytime as the contrast can be bumped up dramatically to counter any glare and the viewing angle of the display is more than impressive. As standard you are getting quite a large hard drive, 320gb to be exact which is more than enough to store all your installed games. In terms of running some of the latest batch of games available the AM11X does well allowing you to play titles minimum from medium to high settings. Such titles included the likes of starcraft, flight simulators, FPS shooters (Call of duty), RTS (Command & Conquer) and many more.

Build quality is sturdy and of a high quality, none of that flimsy plastic found on cheaper laptops, this baby is built to last! The display is capable of display full 720p games, although you can output full 1080p via HDMI and a suitable 7 compatible LCD,LED, Plasma display. The mousepad and buttons are responsive and have a textured feel to them which makes them perfect for RTS types games, any serious gamer though will more than likely purchase a separate mouse for all other types of games.

Overall a snappy little machine that is well worth considering if you have the cash to splash and want a mini gaming laptop that is backed by a reliable brand.

Unboxing & Overview

Dell Alienware M11X - Core i5 8GB DDR3 5.1 - Weight: 4.5 -5.5 Pounds | Battery: Up to 5 hours | Style: Stealth Black

The famous M11X! This little machine has received so many positive reviews from across the globe it's considered to be the bestselling gaming laptop of 2011-2012. The specifications are impressive with the i5 processor, 8gb RAM, 5.1 digital sound and lets not forget the powered 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 335M integrated inside.

Overall style is as expected from an Alienware laptop, a backlit keyboard is handy for when gaming in dark areas or at night and the ability to change the colour of the backlight is a cool feature. For the specifications the M11X sports the battery life is suitable impressive giving you 5 hours of game time maxed out. Titles such as MW3 were able to run on high to ultra settings, with other new titles such as WoW, FFXI offering similar results.

An optical drive is not included so the need of an external one is required, a moot point but a common issue with many small gaming laptops with specifications like those mentioned. Screen clarity is impressive with native HD 720p , and the laptop stays cool and quiet whilst running a variety of software and gaming titles. The rubberised texture of the chassis is comfortable and a welcome addition and Alienware were kind enough to include a free sleeve in the box.

Clevo Origin EONS-11

Designed by the same team that brought us the Alienware M11X, the Origin EONS-11 has only just hit retail and the response has been overwhelming. On paper it's the most powerful 11 inch gamer laptop on the market and is being brought to market to replace the M11X. To go into detail of what this little beast offers could take forever so instead I have created a page dedicated to showcasing the Origin EON11-S in all it's glory. Not Dedicated To Gaming But Still Impressive!

A selection of laptops that are not designed specifically for gaming but get the job done!

HP Pavilion dm1-4142nr Entertainment PC - Weight:3.2 Pounds | Battery: 9.5 hours | Style: Charcoal Sleek

Probably the best multimedia 11inch laptop available, the HP dm1-4142nr is perfect for all your entertainment needs including gaming. Coming with an AMD processor ( The processor of choice for multimedia tasks, claimed by many) 4gb RAM, 500gb Hard drive and a modest AMD ATI Radeon HD 6320 you can't fail to be impressed especially with how inexpensive this unit is compared to other models offering inferior specifications.

The integrated "Beats Audio" offers the best audio experience around, no other sound chip can compare making it great for gaming, watching movies and so much more. Build quality is impressive, the sleek silver finish gives a sense of the unit being more expensive than what it actually is and the chassis integrates HP sense cooltouch technology to keep the chassis cool whilst the laptop is under operation for extended periods of time.

I found that the HP can run a number of titles adequately including HD video with no problem at all. Don't expect the greatest graphics ever, as that is not what the laptop was primarily designed for, but you will find you can run most of the new titles on medium setting on a 720p resolution with minimal tinkering with settings.

@anonymous: I'd also say the Sager NP6110 (or the various available custom builds of it). It easily tops this list and is had for under $800 with a 3rd Gen i5 (ugradeable to i7 for $100), 8GB of RAM, GeForce GT 650M 2GB, 4-5hrs of battery life, and weighs about 4lbs.

xoticpc or powernotebooks (which has it plus an extra if you upgrade the processor and a free HDD upgrade and cheaper wireless adapter upgrades).

I'm not a fan of the 11" gaming notebooks. Too small for the price. However, for those that are interested this is a very comprehensive overview of them. Excellent article!
