Best 15.6 Inch Laptops and Notebooks (2013 update)

Updated on August 6, 2013

Bigger then a 15 inch Laptop but not too big!

If your looking for a laptop that works well both as a primary computer at home and that you can easily carry around with you, then you should look into the best 15.6 inch laptops and notebooks available.

Dell Inspiron 15 i15RV-6190BLK 15.6-Inch LaptopWhenever you need to buy a laptop, you need to map out what and how you will be using your laptop. You need to look at the best value for your money that fits your needs, not just the cheapest or the most fully loaded laptop.

A gamer will need quite a different laptop from someone who works at home or a business man on the move. Sometimes roles might overlap, but you should at least consider your primary use with consideration to all your other needs.

In this article I have sourced out some of the best rated laptops on Amazon for your consideration.

Top Rated 15.6 inch Laptops

These are the best-selling and most popular 15.6 inch laptops you can find on Amazon. I am amazed at the very affordable prices of many of these laptops with many of them between $300 and $500. Of course there are also those that are more expensive, but unless you need the extra power for gaming or extensive multimedia use you will probably be fine with the cheaper models.

Below are some laptops with 15.6 inch screens that have close to a 5 star rating, but may not be the newest models. The short reviews later in the article are some of the best rated models that have come out in the last 6 months or so.

What is the best 15.6" laptop?

If your looking at 15 inch laptops, then you probably want it for the extra screen real estate, yet still be able to carry the laptop around without too much strain.

The best laptop for you really depends on your main use. Choosing between the capabilities, component and price will garner you the best 15.6" laptop for the money.

Some of the things to consider when choosing a 15.6" laptop:

  1. RAM: At current prices, getting less than 4 GB of RAM is just not worth any perceived savings. With the way newer programs expect more memory on computers you will only have to upgrade sooner, and for more than whatever you may have saved. Also you should try to get a laptop where you can expand the memory, for most laptops in this category you will be able to expand your memory to 8 GB or 16 GB of RAM.
  2. Graphics card: Get the best you can for the money, if you will be rendering video animations and or playing highly graphic games this is more important, but even for regular use you do want to have the best graphics card you can get.
  3. USB Ports: You will probably want to get a laptop with both USB 3.0 port(s) and USB 2.0 port(s) for some backward comparability.
  4. SD Card Slot: This will greatly expand your storage options, SD memory cards can be stored or filed away.
  5. Bluetooth: Not only should you look to have bluetooth on your laptop, but get at the very least Bluetooth 3.0--This is by far the best way to connect headphones, mouse and other peripherals
  6. Optical Drive: At this size, you really should be able to get an internal CD drive, so check that the laptop you choose has one, while this is not a deal breaker, it is unlikely that the money you save on this will buy you an external drive unless you already have one.
