Canon decided to put a control ring on the camera by the lens to control shutter speed, ISO sensitivity, manual focus, white balance, and even exposure. As far as ISO the camera can go up to 1600, which is great for a point and shoot.
Cons: Zooming out on the camera is relatively slow, and pictures taken twice in a row have a 2 second time frame, which is a little slower for a point and shoot. The price is also higher for this camera at $430.
Overall, if you want a point and shoot camera that is similar to a digital SLR camera and one that has plenty of advanced features, this is the camera to get.
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5
At $348 the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5 is a compact digital camera with a 24mm wide angle lens, high definition video capability, and image distortion technology that can overall produce beautifully clear pictures.
Pros: The DMC-LX5 has a f2.o lens meaning it is very bright and can capture photos at high levels of light. The LX5 comes with 10.1 megapixels which is a large number for the price, and has a nice optical zoom too. One key feature of this camera is its longer battery life, and Venus Engine FHD image processor. The image processor is fast and allows the lens to adapt to brightness very quick. So, if you want a point and shoot that will spit out nicely saturated photos and take HD video, this is a good point and shoot.
Cons: The Lumix LX5 has a lower amount of megapixels in comparison to its competitors. The LX5 also does not have as many advanced features as other cameras in its class like the Canon S100.

The biggest thing on this camera is its 16 megapixels for outstanding looking pictures. The camera has a nice compact body, reliable auto mode, and nice price tag to be a top competitor in best point and shoot cameras of 2011.
Cons: The Sony Cyber shot was designed to have a ton of features, which prove to be a little too complicated for its technology. The Cyber-shot can sometimes slow down and not take pictures as fast as it should. As far as HD video, the camera only shoots up to 60p which is not very impressive at all.
Overall, if you want a reliable point and shoot camera with a great auto mode, and a ton of megapixels, this is a great camera. However, if you are looking for a great camera to shoot video on, this camera is not the best choice.
