I'm always looking at electronics and tech gadgets when I'm Christmas shopping. Every year there's hot gadgets and electronics to buy for Christmas. On this page, I've created a list of tech gift ideas that are under $50. There's some really cool stuff here that kids, teens, and adults will enjoy.

Car Charger for Cell Phones, Tablets, Laptops, DVD Players, etc - Gift Idea for a Geek or Power User

PowerLine PowerCup 200/400 Watt Mobile Inverter with USB Power Port 90309
PowerLine PowerCup 200/400 Watt Mobile Inverter with USB Power Port 90309

This power inverter is designed to sit in a car's coffee cup holder. It is on my personal wish list. It seems that the problem with relying upon electronics is that you always have to make sure that they are charged - and invariably, you run into an older gadget that doesn't hold a charge well. How many times have you seen someone with a laptop that has to be constantly plugged in?

Anyway, if you're looking for a gift for a nerd who seems to already own all kinds of electronics, then this might be just right for him/her.

Ear Force X12: Top Selling Gaming Headset - Gift Idea for a Video Game Player

Turtle Beach - Ear Force X12 Amplified Stereo Gaming Headset - Xbox 360 (Discontinued by Manufacturer)
Turtle Beach - Ear Force X12 Amplified Stereo Gaming Headset - Xbox 360 (Discontinued by Manufacturer)

I'm not a gamer myself, but I have a relative who is, and he has explained to me the importance (and delight) of owning good gaming headphones. Many games today use sound to enhance the experience and you can use audio clues to help you win the game!

These come highly recommended.... And don't worry if the gamer already owns a headset - each pair of headphones provides a different experience, and I'm sure he/she will be thrilled to try out a new set.

Headset Features

Amplified Audio

In-Line Amplifier

Microphone Monitoring

Variable Bass Boost

USB Powered

Connects to Xbox 360 & PC

8" Digital Photo Frame - You can load this with hundreds of images!

ViewSonic VFD820-70 8-Inch Digital Photo Frame (White)
ViewSonic VFD820-70 8-Inch Digital Photo Frame (White)

This tech gift is for anyone you love! I'm especially thinking Mom and Dad, Grandma and Grandpa, but you know - anyone! If they're not tech savy, then no problem. You can load this with photos before you give it as a gift! It will display them as a slideshow with nice transitions between the photos.

Stream Music to your Sound System

HomeSpot NFC-Enabled Bluetooth Audio Receiver for Sound System
HomeSpot NFC-Enabled Bluetooth Audio Receiver for Sound System

This little device pairs with an NFC-equipped Android, Windows 8, or Nokia phone. (Many new Android phones have NFC.) Then you can stream music from your phone to your home stereo system! It's a small device that solves an issue quite satisfactory according to over 700 reviewers.

Fun Gift Idea for the Creative Photographer - Flexible Tripod for taking pictures ANYWHERE - attach to posts, rocks, etc

JOBY GorillaPod SLR Zoom. Flexible Tripod for DSLR and Mirrorless Cameras Up To 3kg. (6.6lbs).
JOBY GorillaPod SLR Zoom. Flexible Tripod for DSLR and Mirrorless Cameras Up To 3kg. (6.6lbs).

When I saw this tripod, I loved it right away. Often you want to get a picture but you need to have flat ground for a traditional tripod and set up takes awhile... This one allows you to hook your camera to a fence, or anything else, allowing for taking stunning pictures in unusual places. This one is strong enough to hold digital SLRs or camcorders weighing up to 6.6 pounds, but if the person you're buying for has a lighter camera (like a point and shoot) there are smaller/cheaper models for this gorilla style tripod.

Lightweight Portable Headphones - Over 1000 Reviewers have rated these positively!

Koss Porta Pro On Ear Headphones with Case, Black / Silver
Koss Porta Pro On Ear Headphones with Case, Black / Silver

That's right, 1000 people can't be wrong - these sound exceptional for the price. As one customer says, "You won't believe your ears." This is a pair of headphones that's bound to please both the novice and the audiophile. It folds up which makes them nice for travelling with too.

Midland's WR-300 all-hazard/weather alert radio - Warnings Display on the LCD Screen

MIDLAND WR300 Weather Radio
MIDLAND WR300 Weather Radio

This is one of Amazon's bestselling Weather Alert Radios. It has lots of features and can be programmed to stay silent on alerts that you don't want to know about. This is an especially important item to have if you live in tornado alley - although it can warn about all kinds of weather related events and other disasters, so it could help regardless of where you live. I just finished reading the reviews and it's reminded me that I should make sure that the weather alert radio I have is still working - or maybe buy a new one because mine doesn't have a display to show the written alert... The written alert can be far easier to understand than listening to audio.

Sound Activated LED Light Up T-Shirt - The Equalizer on this Shirt will Light up when Music is Playing!!

Fun gift for party goers, ravers, music lovers, and geeks!

Please chime in here if you have any thoughts at all...... I'm sure you've done some Christmas shopping (or birthday shopping, Hanukkah shopping, etc) for someone who is a geek.... What did you come up with? Did you just get them a gift card or did you find a perfect present for them?

Can you think of a great gadget that's under $50? - I want to hear your gift giving ideas!

I just wanted to say that we own the microscope, and it works very well. I also wanted to warn you that an average 10 year old boy will figure out that he can use it to look inside his nostrils pretty quick.
