Best Waterproof Point and Shoot Camera 2013

Updated on May 15, 2013

Best Underwater Camera Reviews 2013

The best waterproof point and shoot camera for 2013 is a tough call, but the clear winner was determined based on a variety of factors, which included price, durability, design and overall picture quality. If you have a family that frequently goes on vacation to the beach, water parks or places with swimming pools, an underwater digital camera should definitely be part of your arsenal, along with your sunglasses, swimsuit and sunscreen.

Don't have your vacation ruined by getting water in your camera and losing all your precious memories. In addition to ensuring that your camera doesn't receive water damage, a waterproof camera will be able to capture images that you could never do with a regular camera. I've taken several underwater photos and they have all come out wonderfully and the kids love posing for these shots.

Canon PowerShot D10

The Canon Powershot D10 is the best waterproof digital camera that money can buy. As a proud owner of this bad boy, I can tell you that this camera has captured hundreds of amazing family photos over the course of a year. Despite having been dropped many times and having been underwater for countless hours, my Canon D10 is still running strong and will continue to take my family vacation photos.

Here are some specs for the Canon D10:

12.1 megapixels

Waterproof to 33 feet deep underwater.

Resistant to cold temperatures (14 to 104 degrees F)

Shockproof up to 4 feet.

3x optical zoom and 12x digital zoom

2.5 inch LCD screen

In addition to all these features, there is also the cute factor to consider. Unlike other underwater cameras that are surrounded by clear plastic cases that make them look bulky and fog up, the Canon D10 looks really sleek and stylish. There is no need to place your camera inside the confines of a plastic case. Best of all you don't have to constantly worry if the protective case is leaking or not.

This is my go to camera whenever we go on a family vacation by the beach, swimming pool or waterpark. After 2 years, it still works perfectly fine even after being in the water for so long.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX20

Although Nikon and Canon have long dominated the market for top quality digital cameras coming out of Japan, Sony has made a formidable underwater point and shoot camera that captures beautiful clear pictures. With a much more sleek and sexy design compared to the "cutesy" Canon D10, the DSC-TX20 is for more serious photographers who want more than just a camera to take family vacation photos. This bad boy comes in 5 different colors (black, blue, green, orange, and pink) and boasts 16.2 MP, 4x Optical Zoom and a 3.0 inch LCD screen. In addition to snapping great pictures, the DSC-TX20 is able to capture full HD 1080/60i.

What I like most about this camera is its sleek and slim design. But rest assured, this camera not only looks good, it performs well underwater as well.

Kodak Easyshare Sport C123

Compared to other two waterproof digital cameras mentioned above, the Kodak Easyshare is much more affordable and is perfect for those who don't want to lose too much cash in exchange for underwater pictures. It boasts an impressive 2.6 inch display and is armed with 12 MP. Although, the quality is not as strong as the Canon and Sony digital cameras, the Kodak still produces some amazing HD quality pictures. One neat feature that sets it apart from the other cameras is that it comes with Kodak's share button, which makes sharing photos and videos so simple. If you are active with social networks such as Facebook and Twitter, this Kodak camera will make your life so much easier. The Kodayk Easyshare is by far the best value camera on this list.

I've used this camera on several trips to the beach with my wife and kids and it has never failed me. I particularly am fond of its robust design and how solid it feels in my hands.
