Places to promote your online content.

Creating an income from your writing all begins with finding a number of places to link your articles to and from.

For those who write online there can be a substantial amount of money available to be made from their articles but it all begins with linkage into and out of your web pages. People have to find your webpage.

Reputable sites to link to in that big old online world that we so fondly refer to as Cyberland are out there and you just have to find them. This article will provide you with a few great sites to help you out.

All links are not created equal.

It is important when you are creating linkage to and from your articles to remember to only connect to reputable websites.

Good quality link building can help to raise your articles ranking on the search engines, but promotion on disreputable websites or low quality articles, can just as easily lower your ranking.

Slow and steady promotion is much better than sudden large bursts. The search engines know when you are trying to manipulate their ranking system. There are no shortcuts.

1. Promote your webpages on Google+

There are a number of sites designed as Social Networking sites and Google+ is Google's version of social networking.

You can connect your blog or article by using the button at the top of most webpages or by adding a button to your site if you do not already have one there. The Google+ button is much alike the Facebook Like and allows others to automatically read your blog.

I love this website because it is exactly what Google promises. It is definitely designed for people like me and you. Google always comes with the highest of standards set for itself. You can see the Google+ button at the top of this page. Most webpages now have the button displayed for easy promotional use.

Know your market.

2. Connect your articles to your Facebook profile

Facebook is a great place to connect with family, business associates, and friends. It also offers up numerous applications, and games of which you can partake of free of charge.

Social Networking sites are much more than a place to connect with friends and family though, they can also be an important place to create linkage into your articles, and blogs. Facebook is one of the fastest growing of these sites.

Placing your links on Facebook gives you another link on the World Wide Web for Google, and the other search engines to discover, and trace back to you. Facebook also offers up a delightful promotional link that you can easily create to promote your pages there.

A helpful aspect of creating linkage with Facebook, is that it is interlinked to so many other great Internet sites. You can place a link on Facebook and have it automatically sent to a number of other sites or vice versa. Sites such as Twitter other sites enjoy linkage with Facebook.

Make sure that you promote on any social networking sites that you socialize or play on.

3. Promote your blogs and articles on Scoop.it

Keep in mind that all linkage is not created equal. A sudden burst of hundreds of new links may actually work against you just as much as connecting to disreputable sites would do. Search engines are geared to know when you are trying to game them.

It is a steady creation of good quality article interlinking that will get the major search engines attention. href="http://www.scoop.it/t/tips-for-successful-online-w... gives you the opportunity to create boards focusing on your articles. I believe you are allowed 5 boards of topics but please let me know if I am wrong on that figure.

4. Promote your blog on delicious

Delicious is a social bookmarking site that offers you the perfect opportunity to create linkage to your online content.

You set up a free account and then simply place the link to your article or blog on their site. https://delicious.com gives you a place to list all your favorite blogs, read other people's blogs, and to have another site at which you have effectively created a link in to your articles.

It is another site designed with you in mind and it is a very easy site to use.

5. Connect your content to StumbleUpon

StumbleUpon is a toolbar that helps you to search the web. It is also an excellent place for you to get linkage in to your blog, and to have browsers find it, and visit.

Create a free account, download the toolbar, and join up with http://www.stumbleupon.com This is one site that tends to direct a lot of traffic in the direction of your article but you are also obligated to view other articles on their platform as well.

6. Pin your blog to Pinterest

I love Pinterest. It is a community of picture links which is garnering quite a loyal traffic following. It is a very easy site to maneuver around. You pin pictures from your webpages (generally your introduction photo) onto their promotional boards.

You pin your image to http://pinterest.com and along with your image is the url to your article. Of course one of the nicest things of connecting to Pinterest is that the search engines are going to see you there. You can see the Pinterest button at the top of this page.

7. Promote your Hubpage articles on your other hubs.

8. Promote your content on Twitter

Twitter is one of the most powerful messaging tools we currently have. It is also a great place to get your article out and into the hands of those that you want to share it with. But Twitter does more than just messaging your link to those who follow you,

Twitter provides a variety of badges and widgets that you can place on your web pages. These display your profile or your most recent posts. If you put your url on Twitter buttons, then these widgets become a fantastic way to create a pathway to your webpages.

A Twitter account is free. Simply sign up to begin using their service. Scroll to the bottom of the Twitter home page, and you will find a little tab labeled as "Goodies", this is where you will find the Twitter widgets for you to apply to your webpages.

9. Link your blog to Yahoo Questions and Answers

Your articles often have information in them that other people really want to know. At http://ca.answers.yahoo.com you can answer questions that are on the same subject as your article, or blog, and then place the link to your blog within your answer.

Just be aware that spamming is absolutely not allowed at Yahoo! Answers.com and you will be barred from the site if you attempt to spam their system. Share your knowledge but share it fairly.

Organize and store your photos on portable USB drives.

Computer storage flash drives come in hundreds of cute and colorful designs so you can theme the ones you purchase specifically to your personality.

Having a variety of colored usb drives makes organizing your online photos or work much easier to classify and to find when you need it.

10. Submit your content to the Bing and Google search engines.

The Yahoo and Bing search engines have merged and it is rather unique in that you can still easily list your web pages as you publish them.

Simply visit

https://ssl.bing.com/webmaster/SubmitSitePage.aspx Bing - Submit to list your articles with Bing Search.

Don't forget about https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/submit-url Google submit. It only takes a minute.

Get the usb ports you need in a one plug mode.

11. Ping Your Lens To Relevant Blog Sites.

There are a number of sites that will ping, or automatically send a link, of your article or blog to a number of relevant sites. One of these oh so important linkage creating sites is Ping-o-Matic.com.

Set up on these sites is relatively easy, and both are free to use, but on http://pingomatic.com

You will have to sift through the blog sites and select only the ones that it is appropriate for you to send your blog to. Many of those listed at this site are for newscast only, so insure that you sift through the sites that you will ping your blog to so that you know for future reference, which sites are suitable for you to ping.

Always keep uppermost in your mind that all ping sites are not created equal and you only want to participate on reputable websites when you are promoting your online articles.

12. Drop the url to your online articles onto your blogs.

Blogger.com is Google's answer to blogging and it is a great place to start saving and sharing your links. If you have a Google account then you have access to blogger which is a free blogging site.

Follow the rules here and this site is a quick, simple, and trustworthy way to create new linkage. So go ahead and join up. Create a free page and link your articles there.

Another great place to create a free blog site is http://wordpress.com Check them out.

13. Promote yourself on Tumblr.com

The search engines are usually your main means of traffic, so creating linkage into, and from the your articles is very important.

Just purchased by Yahoo.com, Tumblr.com is an online community devoted to discovering the most interesting content on the web. You can place the link to your quality articles or blogs here.

Many of the articles that bloggers come up with are informative, and interesting so definitely wanted on Tumblr.com.

The new Transformer laptops are click and go technology.

14. Promote your content on MySpace.

MySpace is one of the most famous Social Networking sites, and up until Facebook came along, held the number one spot for Internet social sites. It still receives quite a share of traffic to it's pages.

One of the nicest aspects of www.myspace.com is that it gives you a tremendous degree of interplay with other sites. This intertwining enables me to have my twitter account connected to my Myspace.com page.

I have my latest tweets sent from Twitter, to Myspace, as I tweet them. This saves me a lot of time and work. MySpace is a great place to promote your articles, and blogs, or to create linkage leading into them.

15. Link to other related online articles.

Don't forget the importance of linking your article to your other related articles. One of the best ways to create good quality linkage to your blog, is to link it to articles, and blogs on a similar topic. Link your articles to one another or trade links with other writers who feature the same subjects as yourself.

Never pass up the opportunity to create a valuable new link for the search engines to pick up on. Most writing sites contain a community of writers. Visit these community forums, or mingle with other writers within your communities, and develop social networks on these sites. Then join or swap links when ever you can.

Keep in mind that the most valuable links are those that are along the same subject line. If you create an article on food, link your other food based articles to it, place medical links within medical based articles, etc. When you first begin working online it is just nice to get as many links intertwined as you are able to, but as you develop more online articles and blogs, linking more specifically will become easier to accomplish.

Good news, Zujava is now included as an allowed site on Lensroll! One of the biggest forms of linkage I create is by linking from other articles I've written. The Twitter feed method you mentioned is also a great source of traffic and a great discovery method. I stopped using Delicious years ago. Does anyone still get traffic from them? I have to admit I haven't visited their site since probably 2009.

I get good traffic from Technorati. It's kind of old school, but it works well for me.

I also have a plugin that autotweets new posts, and facebook is set up to catch my feed. So are some of my squidoo lenses. I also write on hubpages and get links from there (you have to publish at least five articles for your links to be "follow" links, IIRC.)

@auntjennie: Yes. Zujava is set up on the same platform as Squidoo with a similar payment system. It is a very new site and just opened in January 2012 so payments are lower and the site is still working out the bugs but I really enjoy it there. The fellow who opened it is a writer here at Squidoo and a truly good guy.

Good suggestions here. How does all this work now that G has placed less emphasis on backlinks, and some are even penalized for them?

    • Lady Lorelei profile image
      Author

Lorelei Cohen 4 years ago from Canada

@KathyMcGraw2: I believe that it is link farms, and links to disreputable sites, being penalized by Google. I began in January interlinking my squidoo articles with those I am writing on Zujava, and my traffic on squidoo has risen by over 4000 visits per week. That is a pretty major traffic increase which shows that interlinking to relevant sites still works very well. Pinterest is another great link return to my articles as well. Stay away from paid link creation and stick with reputable traffic creation. It works.

Glad I could help you find a few more spots to create linkage. Keep in mind that linkage is a slow and steady process. A quick influx of linkage in or out of your account can actually be detrimental in the search engines. Slow and steady relevant linkage is best.

I think YouTube would be a good one to add to the list. It is definitely a site with authority and traffic. You get a do-follow link from your profile. If you can create a video related to your article content, then you can always drop a link to your article in the video description, that is no-follow but I still think is valuable.

@Starzz30: The best linkage is created slow and steadily rather than in bursts. Also related linkage is very important as well. Good luck working online. It is one of the greatest jobs you can have but also has it's own issues as well.

I also use the same article and make a 5-page power point slide and post that at slideshare.net. Then using WIndows Movie maker which is free I turn the slideshow into a Youtube video and post that there. All in takes about an hur for 3 cracking links.
