Data Representation for Data Communication
Data Representation in Data Communication
For data communication the sender may intend to send texts, numbers, pictures, audios, videos etc...
In data communication text is represented as a pattern of bits i.e 1 and 0. Different text characters are represented by different bit patterns. Each set is called a code and the process of representing the symbol is called coding. Different coding systems are used like Unicode, ASCII etc…
Numbers are also represented by bit patterns. But for numbers ASCII is not used, instead numbers are directly converted to bit patterns
Images are also represented as bit patterns. An image is composed of matrix of pixels, where each pixel is a dot. The size of the pixel depends on the resolution. Once the image is divided into pixels, each pixel is assigned a bit pattern.
Audio is transmitted or communicated in the form of electrical signals. The signal is changed to either analog or digital signals.
Video refers to the recording or broadcasting of a picture or movie. Video can be a continuous or discrete entity. Again, video is changed to either analog or digital signal.
