Finding the Right Website Host

Updated on May 29, 2013

In today’s business and social climate everyone needs or desires a Website or Blog to promote their business or personal projects and for several years I have used a variety of hosting companies for my own business and personal endeavors but choosing the right company to host your site can be difficult, frustrating, expensive, and selecting the correct service may take several days or even weeks.

I have used many website services and over the years I have acquired certain information that might be useful in determining the correct host for your needs. I would like to share with you this information.

First of all, there is a big difference between Free Hosting and Paid Hosting; with free hosting you get exactly what you pay for which is the bare minimum of services and technical support plus free accounts will not have a domain option which allows you to publish your site on the internet with a .com or .net but instead you have to publish your site with your service provider’s name; with pay hosting you get a variety of services, including more templates, better tech support, e-mail accounts and more tools to make your site appear more professional.

Second, it is vital that you choose a website provider that has enough Webspace for your projects, especially if you are going to be uploading many files and check with customer service to see if there is any file size or file type restrictions. Third, make sure the hosting company offers quality Bandwidth which is the amount of data allowed to occur between your web site and the rest of the internet; basically you need enough bandwidth to support a certain amount of visitors to your site; for example, if are not expecting many visitors, then around 1gb of bandwidth is good but if you are expecting a large number of visitors, then you need to choose a provider that has a variety of bandwidth options.

Finally, if you lack technical skills, then you need to locate a website host that offers a Site or Page Builder which allows you to develop your site step by step with little or no tech skills. In conclusion, for your convenience I have provided information about four Website services that I have used in the past and please as in all ventures, do your homework before making your final choice.

Freewebs: One of my first website hosts; offers free services and premium services with paid services starting at $4.95 per month. The host also offers an easy to use Site Builder and page editor.

Justhost: My current business website host; this site offers premium services starting at $3.95 per month and further offers variety of tools for your convenience including a huge help section and the tech support is one of the best around.

Yola: One of the newest services on the web. This company offers both a free service and a premium service that is only $9.97 per month plus yearly fees; they also provide you with many gadgets and tools for your convenience and have a drag and drop page editor.

Bravenet: A very nice Website company with a Site Builder and several Templates you can use, plus many website tools and addons for your convenience including guestbooks,e-mail forms and blogs. This hosting company has both a free service and a pay service.
