Has anyone else's Pinterest account been compromised?

I have been attempting to pin hubs to Pinterest this evening and it kept saying whoops and something about the account.  So I went to Pinterest and just looking at it from a glance, all looked okay until I clicked on one of my boards, and apparently someone by the name of "pinner" has somehow been pinning things on my account and it appears that my pins are gone.  I contacted the help page on Pinterest and all they said to do was change my password and they could not do anything about any pins that have been deleted.  So, it looks like I am going to have to start from scratch?  Is anyone else having a problem with their Pinterest account?

Just checked my account; the Hubs pinned from HP are no longer there but the cover photos are, yet when clicked upon, are not. However, other items NOT pinned from HP are accessible and clicking on them allows one to  follow their links with no problems.

Right, that is exactly how it is on my account too, but on some of my boards someone pinned  a lot of pins that I did not pin and those are there, so I deleted those and changed my password.

Yikes, interesting! I need to go check my page, if I can remember the password. I never go there anymore. Thanks for the heads-up.

Looks like Pinterest is not allowing HubPages articles to be pinned.

This happened before, maybe a year or so ago. Hubbers were spamming Pinterest with all their hubs, and the folks at Pinterest basically got sick of hubbers junking up their site. HP worked it out with them and got pinning abilities reinstated.

Hubbers need to remember to pin sparingly and thoughtfully.

Oh really, wow, how interesting. Well, in my case, someone hacked into my account and put their pins and now it appears all of my own pins have been deleted or they are not showing up. I have deleted the person's pins but just cannot pin anything to my boards. Thank you for the added insight.

Thanks, wilderness.  I guess mine has just been compromised, which is a scary thought!

It does sound like you've been hacked.  I presume you've changed password.

Are you sure the pins are actually gone, and not just hidden somehow?  Your boards indicate hundreds of pins there, with thumbnails showing, but not when the board is opened.  Can they be hidden?  (not very familiar with Pinterest).

          1. Faith Reaper profile image86
Faith Reaperposted 10 years agoin reply to this

Yes, it looks like all is fine and showing so many pins but when I click on a board nothing is showing up. So, maybe your are right that they are hidden. However, the other person's pins were the only ones showing up on some boards. Some boards, very few, were not affected. I was able to delete the other person's pins, but I cannot add pins.

I doubt that it is all right.  After looking, all of my boards (all with hubs) are the same way.  Thumbnails and it says the pins are there, but opening the board displays nothing, or only those not from HP.

Right!  The pins from HubPages are not showing up!  Well, good to know it is just not mine.  However, I had the issue of hubs pinned by someone else!

I just checked mine. It was ok. I checked yours or, to and it seemed fine from my end. Have you checked it recently? Maybe v it was a temporary glitch?

    1. Faith Reaper profile image86
Faith Reaperposted 10 years agoin reply to this

Thanks Randi.  Hmm, I will check it again.  It all looks fine at a glance, but when I click on a board, like my Hubpages Writer's Hubs, none are showing up, but the number is indicating they are there, unless they are hidden?  The only ones that were showing up were about ten hubs pinned by someone else, not me!  I was able to delete those.  Hopefully, it is a temporary thing.  I did have to change my password as my account was hacked into.  Thanks for checking.

    2. Faith Reaper profile image86
Faith Reaperposted 10 years agoin reply to this

Randi, did you actually click on one of your boards where you share HP hubs?  As those are the boards that look okay until you click on the actual board and there is nothing showing!  I just checked mine again, and there are no HP hubs showing at all under any of my boards.  There are other pins I have shared, but no HP hubs anywhere.  I deleted the other person's pins of course.  In other words, if you look at your page, everything looks great, until you actually click on a board, nothing is there!

You are totally right. My hubpages board says 225 pins but there are.....3 things there! It doesn't look like anyone has hacked my account.I have gone to a couple of other boards and they seem ok. Thank you for letting me know. I guess I will contact pinterest tomorrow.

ok. Now I see that I have a board that I didn't put on there. It has over 10,000 pins. Does that mean I have been comprimised as well? How ridiculous is this? Hacking a pinterest account?

Faith Reaperposted 10 years agoin reply to this

Oh no, yes, it looks like that may be the case. I wonder if the person just messed with HP hubs but if you have a board you did not create then someone did get in there it seems.

Wow, looks like someone is messing up with Pinterest. Better check on mine, too. I always leave it open because I presume nobody cares about what I pin. Sorry about what happened to btrbell and Faith Reaper. Some people really need to find something to do with their lives.

When this happened before, it was not some bored or crazy person hacking Pinterest accounts, it was Pinterest site owners/management who cut off HubPages articles from being pinned because they were fed up with Hubbers who were spamming Pinterest with too many HP articles.

I don't know what the problem is this time, but that's why I mentioned pinning sparingly and thoughtfully in my post above.

    1. Faith Reaper profile image86
Faith Reaperposted 10 years agoin reply to this

Yes, but there have been pins added that I have not pinned and in the case of btrbell (Randi), she had a whole board added with 10,000 pins.  What is the purpose of Pinterest but to share pins?  Thanks

  6. btrbell profile image87
    btrbellposted 10 years ago

Well, the extra board is a shared one do nobody hacked my account to put it there. I got rid of that and changed my password so I am guessing that it must be an hp thing as assumed.

Thanks for posting this, Faith.  I will check my pinterest account and change my password to make sure!
As Randi says, "How ridiculous is this? Hacking a pinterest account?"  !!!
I think I will go for the option of more secure passwords for all my different accounts!
    Enjoy your weekend!

Hi Joelle, yes, a lot of people do not trust Pinterest anyway as they claim ownership of one's photos. If we cannot share hubs there then I see no need myself to have an account with Pinterest. I hope your account is okay. It looks good until you click on a board and not one hub from HP is showing, so do not know if they are just hidden or have been deleted. However, the number of pins to each board still is sowing, so maybe they are hidden? I thought they make money on pins?  It is scary someone can add pins to your boards! Blessings

Yep everyone of my Hubpages pins are gone. What happens to the ones that other people pins from my pins. This does not seem fair to them somehow?

    1. Faith Reaper profile image86
Faith Reaperposted 10 years agoin reply to this

Yes, suzzy, that seems to be the case. I am hoping they are just hidden at the moment and not deleted. No, it is not fair. I guess those that other people's pins are gone too?

I went back to Pinterest and I finally remembered that I pinned some of my owls on Pinterest and also projects of others... and it's not there anymore.  Because I have one Pinterest account with myh French projects and another one with my English projects... I am sometimes mixed up ;-)
Let's hope that indeed all our pins will be back!  What a strange thing to exercise sensureship on pictures ?!?!
Thank you for bringing this subject up, Faith.  Because your brought the question to our attention, the solution might be coming soon!
Enjoyr your weekend... and hopefully your pins :-)

Oh, Dear Joelle (kidscrafts), I am so sorry precious heart!  I have not been to my account to see if mine are all there or not, but I have been pinning tonight and it is working.  I will check.  I hope you are able to pin what you want to pin again.  But if you have very special photos, just as photographers do not share their photos on pinterest, you may want to think about it.  I know some hubbers have had the pinterest share button removed from there hubs.  I think it is optional and you can ask them to remove it.  I am not a photographer and I am not concerned about my photos being claimed by pinterest, but I can understand those who would for sure.

I hope you have a lovely weekend sweet friend.

      Hugs,

      Faith Repaer

You are so sweet and kind in your comment, Faith!  I went to check again this morning and nothing is back yet in my owl section but interestingly enough I pinned projects of other hubbers and some of the pictures are there and some not.  This will stay a mistery for me!
I might contact them to know why this is happening.
Enjoy your weekend, dear Faith :-)

Thanks Gypsy.  All is well now, I believe.  I did have to change my password and delete pins that I did not pin, but as far as all of the hubs from HP showing back up, they are all there, as far as I can tell!

      God bless
