In August 2000 my teenage child and I lived in The Crossings in Lenexa, Johnson County, Kansas, and I was starting law school at The University of Kansas School of Law in Lawrence, about a 30 minute drive, after leaving Blackwell Sanders Peper Martin in their Corporate Woods office. Freshly back from our Colorado vacation, with all of the dozens of Corvettes swirling around, I could not find a cell phone provider with coverage in the law school. However, the Sprint salesperson relayed the following story.
He said the City of Lawrence, within the only county in Kansas that always goes to the Democrats, Douglas County, fought the installation of cell towers. However, he claimed Sprint was finally able to get a cell tower in Lawrence, but it had to be housed in decorative village houses as an enclosure. So I paid about $400 in order to get reception in the law school, but returned the phone two days later when it did not get reception in the law school. Sprint refused to refund about $200 of the $400, which was activation. Even though their salesperson had lied to me, they played ping pong, and refused to refund the entire $400. Was Lawrence right to fight the installation of cell towers? I recall that the Phillips' (MobilFone family) father had made a wise move purchasing towers ahead of time, based on my recollection with the son decades ago. Why do you think anyone would fight the installation of cell towers? There is a huge tower behind Lenexa Police Department. Share your thoughts on cell towers.
Note: "within the only county in Kansas that always goes to the Democrats, Douglas County" is my clarification, and was not mentioned by the lying Sprint salesperson.
Also, "Philips" may only have one "L." (Tim lived in the same apartments that Larry later moved into, right behind Shawnee Police Department).
One more addendum: Corporate Woods was a premier office park in Overland Park, Johnson County, Kansas, that did not even have keylocks on the doors in 1999, where Blackwell Sanders Peper Martin had their offices, as many firms did historically. It contains Sanders Warren & Russell, Lansing Grain, Stinson had an office in that same building as Lansing Grain, but in a different suite, and so did HCA. Sprint is also in Overland Park, Johnson County, Kansas.

Not much there but only after the late 60's on has it been the Gate way to hell. Great story which has many twists...
