Free website URL submission to search engines

Updated on September 4, 2017

URL submission is the basic and easiest search engine optimization (SEO) method for promotion of websites. Free listing option is the most popular choice of webmasters as no cost is involved.

However, search engines have different submission policies. Most do not guarantee that the website submitted under the free service will be catalogued. Moreover, indexing of free listings might take 10-12 weeks, or even longer.

As manual submission of URLs is time-consuming, it is therefore important to find search engines that really provide fast indexing, as well as indexing of all URLs submitted under the free listing service. Otherwise, it will be just a waste of time on your part.

Listed below are two search engines that meet the above criteria:-

(1) Active Search Results

Active Search Results (ASR), an independent Internet Search Engine, was launched in August 2009. Its own spiders visit daily web sites that are submitted to ASR. It also has crawlers that index other popular web sites on the internet. It is not dependent on outside resources or third party search engines. All search results are provided by ASR’s internal indices and databases.

ASR Ranking Algorithm

ASR uses a proprietary search engine ranking technology known as ASR Ranking. It allows search engines to rank search results higher for websites whose owners have a history of performing actions or events defined as “Activity”.

The “Activity” involves simple action such as signing in, submitting URL, re-submitting URL, adding a backlink to ASR, etc. More ASR Ranking Points will earn you a higher ASR Ranking, resulting in your website being displayed higher in Active Search Results’ search pages.

URL submission

Registration is optional. Even without registering, ASR will still index your site. Indexing is performed every 24 hours. The main benefit of registration is that your website will earn a higher ASR Ranking, as well as access to some features in managing the URLs submitted.

Registration is free and easy. Only an email address and a password are required. You can start submitting URLs upon activation of the account. Initially, you can only submit up to 10 URLs. However, ASR will consider extending the limit on a case-to-case basis.

Google PageRank & Alexa Traffic Rank

Active Search Results has a Google PageRank of 4 and an Alexa Traffic Rank of 2,495.

26% of its visitors are from the United States, where it is ranked #1,826. It is also popular in Indonesia, where it is ranked #618.

Its other global internet users are from various parts of the world.

(2) Secret Search Engine

Secret Search Engine started in September 2007. No registration is required for URL submission. There is no limit to the number of sites submitted.

Submission restrictions

All submissions are accepted but with the following restrictions:-

  • URLs containing a ‘?’ character will not be indexed.
  • Only the first directory level of a domain will be indexed, e.g. shirts.com/thispage.php will be indexed but not shirts.com/path/thatpage.html.
  • URLs cannot exceed 120 characters.

URLs submitted will be put on queue and indexed later. Indexing usually takes place very soon after submission.

(Note: Secret Search Engine does not email confirmation of indexing. After one or two days, you can check by resubmitting the URL. Most probably, you will see the message “URL is already included in the index, no need to resubmit! See page analysis here”.)

Free dofollow link

To get a free dofollow link to your site, you just need to social bookmark or link to the page analysis of your site. When Google finds your information page, the followed link will increase your Google rank.

The page analysis is obtained by submitting the URL a second time after it has been indexed.

Google PageRank & Alexa Traffic Rank

Secret Search Engine has a Google PageRank of 0 and an Alexa traffic rank of 13,668.

29% of its visitors are from India, where it is ranked #4,683. It is also popular in Indonesia, where it is ranked #2,160.

The rest of its internet users are from Australia, Asia, Europe, Middle East, South Africa, and North & South America.
