Free Cell Phones for Welfare Recipients

Updated on September 13, 2012

Free cell phones for people on welfare come with a stipulation. You are only allowed to use the phone for free up to a certain amount of minutes every month. If you want to use more the minutes than the allowable amount for free, then you’ll need to buy minutes.

Every year you have to renew your contract for a free phone. Therefore, your income is checked every year. If you don’t meet the requirements then you don’t get to use your phone for free anymore for that year.

To apply for free cell phones for welfare recipients, contact Safelink Wireless. See if service is provided in your area. Then get an application and provide your W2, pay stubs, etc to prove your income. Once you are approved they will send you a phone. Even if you decide later on to quit their service, you can keep the phone for free. You are under no obligation to return it.

Free cell phones for people on welfare is a great program that has began recently. Many people on welfare just cannot afford to pay for a cell phone plan as it is very expensive. Most plans cost at least 50 dollars per month.

The reason that people on welfare can get free cell phones is because cell phones have become a need nowadays. Everywhere you go everyone has a cell phone. Cell phones aren’t just used for talking to friends. They are also very important when you have emergency. For example, if you saw a robbery and needed to call police for help, all you’d have to do is take out your cell phone and make the call.

If you want to get a free cell phone, then you need to meet certain income requirements which are set forth by the federal government. But if you are already getting government aid such as food stamps or subsidized housing, then you will also qualify for a free phone too.

You don't get a better cell phone from the government, you get a job like the rest of us and save your money. Once you have enough money saved to upgrade your cellphone you can get one. Sounds easy right?
