Substitute iPad For Kids
iPad for Kids
If you have kids, or you know of children who are always wanting to use your iPad or wanting an iPad for themselves but at this stage they are really too young for their own iPad (and frankly it is too expensive to buy one for the kids themselves), then you may be happy to know that there is an option that you can buy which is a type of iPad for kids. Hopefully these options will stop them trying to get hold of your iPad although obviously there is no guarantee of that as kids always seem to want the things they are not supposed to have!
There are in fact two main products on the market that are similar in nature to the iPad but they are specifically designed with kids in mind and hence are made more robust and have educational applications as well as the usual ability to play music and store pictures. Both of these options have been popular Christmas items for children over the last few years.
So if you know a child that would love to have their own iPad type device then check out the options below which are designed to be suitable generally for children aged 4 to 9. These iPads for kids cost under $100 so are great value for money and make a great Christmas gift.
The VTech InnoTab learning Tablet
This is a great option for an iPad for kids which features learning apps including a globe and a clock as well as the ability to play MP3s and a video player. The tablet has a 5" touch screen with tilt ability and kids will really enjoy playing with the interactive eBooks and games on this machine as well as using the art studio to increase their creative abilities.
The innoTab connects to a Mac or PC with the USB cable supplied and you can download apps from the internet when you connect like this.

The VTech InooTab is also available in pink and at a price of under $80 makes a very affordable alternative to getting an iPad for the kids!
VTech InnoTab in the UK
The VTech Innotab is also available in the UK. Unfortunately, and this seems to be the case with a lot of the new technology, the price of gadgets in the UK is often the same in pounds (or even more in the case of the Kindle) as it is in dollars and this product is no exception.
However, if you do want to buy the Vetch InnoTab then you can buy it in the UK here and it is still under £100.
LeapFrog LeapPad Explorer
The LeapPad Explorer moves the technology up a notch (and of course with that you get an increase in price or around $20) by also including a built in camera and video recorder as well as a larger internal memory than the InnoTab. However, both have their place and perhaps the Leappad would be more suitable for children in the higher end of the designed age group (this is also aimed at children aged 4 to 9).
Like the InnoTab the LeapPad has a 5" touch screen which in this case you can also use with a stylus.
The apps cover a broad educational curriculum and levels of difficulty can be changed according to the child's ability.
Like the InnoTab, both of these tablets are designed with little fingers in mind and are made in a robust manner to withstand the treatment that they may get from slightly careless children!
The LeapPad is another choice if you are looking for an iPad for a child and it is slightly higher spec and at a higher price than the InnoTab. It is also available in pink.
LeapPad Explorer in the UK
Again, at a slightly higher price in pounds than dollars but still pretty good value, the LeapPad Explorer is available in the UK and you can check it out here.
