iPhone Bike Mounts - iPhone Bicycle Holders for Bikes or Motorbikes

Updated on August 17, 2014

If you are a cyclist who owns an iPhone then you probably already know there are some incredibly useful apps out there which make buying an iphone bike mount highly desirable.

A simple handlebar mounted iphone caddy costs under $30 in most cases and allows you to turn your iPhone into a bike computer, GPS system, ride-a-long camera or simply gives you a way to listen to music while you ride if that's more your thing.

Whatever you reason for wanting one, iPhone bike mounts certainly open up a whole range of useful apps for every bicycle owner out there.

Waterproof iPhone Bike Docks

On many of the models out there you need to remove the protective casing on order to fit your phone into the mounted holster. Whilst this is not usually a problem, it is also true that a great many of those handlebar mounted iPhone docks do not come with any form of weather protection either, so if you are caught in a sudden downpour, your phone is at risk.

That being said, not every handlebar mounted iPhone caddy suffers from this problem and some do come with protective rainproof cases and screen covers to keep your iPhone waterproof while you ride.

A good waterproof handlebar mount for iPhone devices is:

Arkon Bike or Motorcycle Handlebar Mount with Water-Resistant Holder for 4.3-inch Screen Size Garmin TomTom Magellan GPS

This waterproof smartphone case mounts onto the handlebars of any bike or motorbike with a maximum diameter of 33mm. it is compatible with most straight, drop, trekking, and touring size handlebars.

iPhone Bike Mounts For Oversized Handlebars

Some newer bikes now have handlebars with large diameters and many of the clamp style handlebar mounts will not fit these wide thick handlebars.

If that's something you are finding out, then not to worry because there are some excellent wide handlebar iPhone holders out there which cater to your needs as well. The best, and most versatile of these in my opinion, is the following RAM iPhone mount which uses cable ties instead of a clamping system. It's a simple, low tech but very effective solution to the problem and it'll fit any size or diameter of bike handle bar.

Fits any diameter of handlebar by using common zip ties to clamp it securely in place. Great for big bike handlebars which other mounts do not fit.

Popular iPhone Holders and Handlebar Mounts

The way to find the best bicycle handlebar mount for iphone users is to consider what you actually require it to be used for.

Some users will require waterproof iPhone handlebar cases because they intend to use their smartphone outside regularly in all kinds of inclement weather. Others will not require this at all, since they actually want their iPhone bike attachment to mount their smartphone on a gym bike for easy access or to watch a movie whilst they work out.

The wide variety of uses make choosing a good iPhone handlebar case somewhat confusing unles you sit down and realise what it is you want but rest assured, there are loads of options out there.

Why On Earth Would I Mount My Iphone Onto My Bike?

Smartphones have a whole range of features which are useful in a wide variety of situations. You've no doubt heard the phrase "there's an app for that" in reference to Apple products and the same is certainly true for cyclists and gym bike users.

Cycling GPS Apps - one great use of an iPhone bike mounting kit is to provide yourself with a mini GPS system for your outdoor excursions. There are some great GPS apps for cyclists on the iPhone which can greatly enhance your outdoor cycling experience.

Track Distance/Time etc. - you can also find some great apps for tracking bike riding times, distance traveled and other useful data which you can use to aid you in your training or general fitness routine, or simply because it's a fun thing to know. An cyclist iPhone mount keeps the data at your fingertips.

Keeps It Safe and At Hand - having things about your person is often uncomfortable while cycling and mouting the iPhone on a bike keeps it easily accessible without it getting in your way and being uncomfortable in a pocket, or unsecure in a belt clip. Position it right and you can see who's calling and save yourself from stopping and breaking your workout if it doesn't look important.

Bottom Line - it's just plain useful and if you cycle regularly, these mounting kits are a very useful thing to have.

This is very useful, but as somebody who rides his bike all the time, I'm amazed at the number of people who try to talk and ride their bike at the same time and in the street. I think mounts add to the temptation to use the phone while actually riding.
