Kindle Fire Accessories for Kids
Add-ons for the Fire and Fire HD for Children
Find Kindle Fire accessories for kids. The Kindle Fire and Fire HD tablets are very popular choices for kids. Amazon have added quite a lot of child-friendly features and content to the tablets. My son has a Kindle Fire HD (shared with me) and it gets used on a daily basis.
On this page we'll look at accessories that can make a Kindle Fire tablet more usable by children and add to it's entertainment and educational value. You'll find gift ideas for kids that already have a Kindle Fire or Fire HD and ideas for add-ons if they're getting a new tablet.
We'll be looking at headphones, keyboards, cases, toys and other accessories.
Screen Protector for Kindle Fire HD
Not the most exciting accessory, but you'll probably want to protect the screen from grubby fingers and scratches.
You get three in this pack and a lifetime replacement warranty.
Kindle Fire Cases for Kids
If you're looking for a kid-friendly case for kids (kid-tough or fashionable) for the Kindle Fire or Fire HD then I've written a separate page covering those:
Kindle Fire Cases for Kids, Tweens and Teens
Are you looking for Kindle Fire cases for kids? Lots of kids are enjoying their Kindle Fire tablets and need a case that is practical and fun. This collectio...
Kids Headphones for Kindle Fire Tablets - Designs for Boys and Girls
Sometimes you just don't need to hear what your child is doing on the Kindle Fire! Games that play the same tune over and over, watching Power Rangers on Netflix, your child's favorite song for the 10th time today, ...
And sometimes you're in a situation where noise isn't appropriate like a medical waiting room, or on public transport.
The JLab JBuddies Kids volume limiting headphones are a popular choice for children with a Kindle Fire.
These headphones are designed for kids from age 2+ and are adjustable to fit.
The phones limit the maximum volume to protect your child's ears.
They come in a choice of colors and designs including pink, purple and blue. You also get a choice of stickers to customize the headphones with - kids love stickers!
Kindle Fire Speakers
And sometimes you want to turn the noise up (though the volume is pretty good on the Kindle Fire itself.) Maybe you've got friends around and want to dance to your favorite song, or perhaps you want to listen to music outdoors on a nice day.
The iKross speakers stack together with a handy magnetic lock. They are rechargeable so you don't need to worry about batteries or an electrical socket.
Marware UpSurge Rechargeable Mini Speaker
The Marware UpSurge Rechargeable Mini Speaker is another popular choice. This is a single mini-speaker and it's available in a range of bright kid-friendly colors.
Oh no! I've forgotten to charge it ...
Accessories Bundle - with Car Charger
You're just about to set off on a long road trip and your child was planning to entertain themselves with their tablet on the journey. But they fell asleep reading an ebook (not playing Angry Birds, I'm sure) and forgot to plug their tablet in to charge.
This is when a car charger comes in handy. This bundle is good value as you get lots of other bits too.
This accessory bundle has lots of useful stuff for getting started with a Kindle Fire including a car charger.
There's a cool fishbone cordwrap and a velcro tie for keeping things tidy.
A USB cable for data transfer. And a handy stylus.
Kindle Fire Stylus for Little Kids
A stylus can give greater accuracy for little kids. It's also good for practising pencil grip when they are learning to write.
This stylus is big and chunky - great for little hands.
You can also get this the GreatShield Chalkee in Pink.
Kindle Fire Stylus for Older Kids
For older kids a stylus is still useful. It offers finer precision and avoids sticky fingers on the screen. You can get packs of
For older kids, this multi-pack of styluses is a good option. You get three in a pack (they probably will manage to mislay one some of the time.) Available in a choice of bright color selections.
Magic Fibre Cleaning Cloths
Another sensible suggestion! As a touch screen device, the Kindle Fire will get finger prints on it so it makes sense to have a cleaning cloth designed for the purpose to avoid kids using their sleeves!
A pain of good quality but inexpensive cleaning cloths that will do the trick.
Still Deciding Which Kindle Fire to Buy?
I've written a page about the Kindle Fire for Kids which covers all the features, parental controls and the different models.
Kindle Fire for Kids
Are you considering the Kindle Fire for Kids? The Kindle Fire is a 7" color tablet, just the right size for kids to hold. It has access to lots of eBook...
HDMI Cable - Use a Big Screen Display
Yes it's a cable! But with this cable you can connect the Kindle Fire HD to a big TV so kids can watch a Netflix movie or play a game using the big screen. This is a very cool feature and one of the reasons we chose the HD model.
We chose the Amazon Basics cable. It does the job just fine.
Kindle Fire HD Keyboard - In bright kid-friendly colors
You can do lots on a Kindle Fire without needing a keyboard, but there are times when it's handy. Typing is a useful skill for kids to learn and a tablet sized keyboard is actually better suited to kids little hands than a full-size one.
My six year old loves to type notes. This is slow going for him on the on-screen keyboard and I'd like him to learn to type.
Most of the keyboards available for the Kindle Fire are either boring business-like black or poor quality.
The Poetic KeyBook Bluetooth Keyboard Case is available in colorful purple and red. And it gets good reviews too.
We've got one (in red of course!) and the keyboard works very well, especially for a child with smaller fingers.
The main downside is that the case is bulkier than non-keyboard cases. Although the keyboard is cleverly removable with a magnetic attachment.
The case is just looser when the keyboard is not there.
Kindle Fire HD Car Headrest Mount
Watching videos on long car journeys is a popular use for the Kindle Fire HD. It's safer and more convenient to fix the tablet to the headrest of the front seat rather than the child having to hold the device and it gives a better viewing position.
You can still access the ports on your tablets when it's in the mount, and it's easy to take in and out.
Skylanders Cloud Patrol
Did you know that there's a Skylanders App for the Kindle Fire HD? My son is really into Skylanders as the older kids in his school love it.
Is There a Games Controller for Kindle Fire?
Lots of android apps are designed for the touch screen interface of a tablet and work well. But a physical controller with joysticks and buttons is preferable for some games, and some kids just prefer the experience. And then there's multi-player games where you can't both control the screen (never mind actually see what's going on!)
That's where the Green Throttle Game Controller and app comes in. And don't forget, if you get a HDMI cable you can connect to a big screen TV for some large-scale gaming.
