Best Laptop Cooler Review

Updated on June 14, 2014

Use your laptop anywhere you go.

I love to use my laptop everywhere I go. I often have a laptop perched in front of my when I am sitting at the couch watching television. trying to get in a little bit of multi-tasking while I am getting some work done.

The problem with a lot of laptops, is that despite the name they simply are not meant to sit on your lap for very long. As laptops get increasingly smaller and more complex, they cram more and more good stuff inside them. All of this extra electronics packed into the guts of these mobile mini computers means that they generate a lot of heat.

Sitting on a table, this is usually no problem. The designs of these laptops also come with powerful miniature fans that force air over all the electronic components, keeping them nice and cool. But set the laptop on, heaven forbid YOUR LAP and you may cover up some of the air vents on the bottom of your computer.

This can quickly lead to the case heating up to temperatures that may be uncomfortable for your lap, or even worse can cause your laptop to crash and even potentially damage the electronics inside. This is certainly something that I do not desire, and I am sure that you feel the same way.

Of course this is where the laptop cooler comes in. These come in a variety of styles. Some of the more complex ones will have their own internal fans that will help to force air into your laptop case, keeping it nice and cool. Some of the simpler ones will simply act like a stand to keep your own body from plugging the vents that are used to cool your device. Others are designed more for the comfort and ease of uses, making it simply easier to use your laptop while you are seated comfortably at the couch.

In this laptop cooler review I have tried to hunt down some of the best of these devices for you, to give you options that are effective, comfortable and affordable and hopefully all three of the these put together. Enjoy!

Simple and Basic Laptop Cooler

Inexpensive Laptop Desk Cooler
Inexpensive Laptop Desk Cooler

There are certainly a lot of fancy ways you can go with the cooling of your laptop. But really, unless your PC is old, you do not need to force air inside, you just need to keep it elevated away from your body. All the fancy comfort options may also not be something you are interested in.

For bare and spartan design this is one I like a lot. It is simple, yet it is also effective. It will keep your laptop on your lap, works comfortably on a couch or chair and it will not set you back a small fortune. A really reasonable tool and a certainly something that anyone who plans to actually set their laptop ON their laps for any length of time should own.

Here are some of the things I like about this specific case:

* It provides a simple, yet very effective and stable platform.

* Lightweight design makes it easy to carry around with your laptop, and even inside your laptop case.

* It has a cool ergonomic design

* The concave groove works really well to maximize airflow and dissipate heat

* Made for laptops of just about all sizes, all the way up to 16 inch screens.

The Laptop Cooler that I currently own and use - One of the most popular versions out there. For a good reason: It Rocks!

Slim FanLaptop cooler
Slim FanLaptop cooler

This slim and portable laptop cooler is quite popular with the gamer set, where forced air can be quite a necessity to keep the high end performance laptops cool and performing at peak efficiency.

This is one of the best seller's and most popular of the choices for a good reason, it has high quality at a decent price.

As you can see, it has a mesh surface with a built in fan that can be used to force air through the mesh and cool any Mac, laptop, Ultrabook, netbook or notebook.

Cooler Master NotePal X-Slim Ultra-Slim Laptop Cooling Pad with 160mm Fan - Reasons I am such a FAN of this Fan.

More PowerThis laptop fan table doesn't have a little piddly fan that moves a little bit of air. No, not at all. This fan comes with a power hungry monster fan that is 160mm in size and can spin at up to 1500 rpm. This fan is a heavy duty option for some serious cooling, yet is also has a nice slim profile and is very lightweight and easy to use. All of this is just some of what makes this option so popular with the gamer set.

VersatilityIt supports all forms of laptops and notebooks all the way up to ginormous 17 inch versions.

Convenience: Powered by USB It is powered by the laptop USB, so it does not take a ton of cables dangling all around. To me this is a very important point. A few year back I had a laptop cooler with its own external plug. It seemed it was always getting tangled up with my powercord. More then once, I went to get up, thought all the cables were cleared and had the whole thing come crashing down. Not good at all!

And of course, the grooves make cable management, also part of what I was talking about above, a lot easier to manage.

Thermaltake Massive23 LX Laptop Notebook Cooler Oversized 230mm Blue LED Fan

This massive blue fan is certainly the coolest looking option of the bunch.

I just love the look of this one, and it also has just about all the same benefits of the fan that I own. The USB power. The powerful and huge fan. and the sleep modern design.

If I did not already own a pretty good laptop cooler I loved, I think I would have to get this one.

For your couch or your table - The MStand for Apple users

Users of Macbook and Macbook Pro simply love this stand. It can be used for keeping sitting with your macbook, but honestly I do not think that is the main design intent for this one, unlike the previous choices.

This one is all about the ergonomics.

If you use your macbook as your main computer, sitting at a table with it on a flat table is not the most ergonomic method.

This sturdy stand is made to not only help act as a heat sink for your macbook, but it also helps reduce the chances of long term repetitive motion strain from using your device in an uncomfortable fashion.

The tilted design allows the screen to be at eye level and you to type on a portable keyboard while keeping your posture perfect. Something that should never be overlooked or ignored.

Xpad Slim (Non-slip Laptop Cooler and Heatshield)

This is a universal device. Not only that, but this option is pretty darn cool because of the "no-skid" design, and the fact that it was designed, from scratch to be used just about anywhere.

Like the other good options on this page, uses forced air to keep even the hottest running laptops cool when they are comfortably set on your lap, preventing heat from burning your legs, and even more importantly, your expensive electronic device from heat related damage.

Some great LapDesk options - Find a deal for one of these nifty options on eBay

Not all lapdesks are simply about keeping your laptop cool and your hands nice and comfortable. Some of these options keep you in a relaxed condition with the laptop never even touching your body in any way.

Take a look at a few more of the many methods to support your laptop and help you work, game, play and relax in style and comfort with your macbook, laptop, or netbook

Simple but elegant design LapDesk , built for comfort

This wooden lapdesk is not a fancy gamers choice with powerful fans and ergonomic design. It is a simple tray, that can be used just as effectivly for your dinner as for your laptop.

Bells and whistles are nice, but may not be needed if you just want something to support your notebook. This simple yet elegant choice will do that, and do it in comfort and style.

Two thoughts..First, don't thing the 101 is all that bad. The 405? THAT is Hell.Second, I belveie there is an organization chart of Heaven that is equally grueling in the Heinlein novel Job: A Comedy of Justice. That is to be viewed. And I agree there should be a special place in Hell for sanctimonious Mac/iPhone/iPad users to have it out with equally sanctimonious other platform folks. I even back off on my Android crusade because of a fear of that place and I don't even much belveie in Hell
