The Best Ways to Learn to Play Guitar

Traditionally the best way to learn guitar has been to get your own personal mentor. That is you would need to have a tutor and pay for lessons in a formalized one on one relationship. However it is getting ever more expensive, and difficult, to find qualified instructors to teach you.

Whenever I have spoken to musicians about how they learned, and what works best, they often say that they did not really start to develop until they joined a band. This is because they have to learn to keep up and play as well as the other band members, and also due to the fact that they could watch and see how the other band members tackled each part of the song or number being played, and of course the benefit of being able to ask to see a particular technique demonstrated.

Unfortunately in today's high pressure world there are not many of us who can afford the time to go and play in a band on a regular basis. So how do we go about tackling this problem?

What if you could watch and replay the techniques of many of the top players and even play along with them? Well now you can! through the revolution of the Internet and streaming video. There are several top rated Guitar learning to play courses available that you can download and learn from, in the privacy of your own home. You retain the benefits of your own personal tutor, and can even play along with their band.

Video and Internet Based Guitar Courses

For Guitarists that are too busy or too far away from major towns learning to master the guitar has been a problem. Well this is no longer true as there are now a whole range of video courses available either on-line for download or as DVD and CD sets. Either of these options is great as you can move along at your own rate and replay any lessons or pieces that are giving you trouble. The key features of these courses is that they provide the ability to keep replaying, so that you can go at your own pace, and do not have to keep paying for repeated lessons.

Some of these courses will also allow you to learn more than one style of play and of course you can pick and choose styles as you progress. You will not have to find a new tutor each time you decide to change styles.

This steel string guitar is suitable for the beginner through to quite advanced and it combines an acoustic guitar with amplification. This one will not annoy the parents too much while practicing, but will have sufficient sound to play with a group of friends.

The most popular electric guitar with an acoustic box all time is the Gibson Les Paul. The Gibson product is expensive, but there is also a cheaper version made by Epiphone, just as Squire make a cheaper version of the Stratocaster. Very interesting, this is something I've always wanted to do but never had much success with it. Great informative lens though, who knows- maybe I'll give it another try someday!

I am both a Hendrix fan and a Segovia fan, (as I mentioned above). When it comes to playing, though, I am happy with anyone who can get my toes to tapping.

@shellys-space: It does because you can learn to pick out a tune in about a week, but it is still one of the hardest instruments to truly master!

The 100,000 hour rule applies to mastery!

@weallmatter: It can be very romantic and relaxing or really quite dramatic. The range of the instrument in the right hands is truly amazing!
