Best Leather iPad Mini Cases

Updated on February 11, 2015

Best Leather iPad Mini Cases

The new iPad Mini is here and it look awesome: a 7.9" display that is smaller and lighter than the regular sized iPad. The new iPad Mini is designed for those who want a tablet that can fit into their pocket or purse. For a long time medical professionals have complained that the iPad was just a little too big to fit into their pockets, and so could not be used in the medical field. It also works much better as an eReader that you can hold up with one hand for a long period of time without your wrist getting tired. At 0.68 pounds (lighter than the Kindle Fire HD and Nexus 7 Tablets), it was compared at the Apple Keynote to holding a pad of paper.

Of course if you're here that means you want a leather iPad Mini case that will add an air of sophistication and style to your tablet without adding too much bulk or weight. These are the best iPad Mini cases that are currently available, and of course we'll feature more and more cases as they become available.

If you like the look and feel of leather but would prefer a more animal friendly version, keep scrollling as we'll have a section for synthetic leather and vegan leather iPad Mini Cases.

Feel free to visit my new website: CaseCafe.org, which has features dozens more Leather iPad Mini cases, as well as reviews and promotions to help you find the right case.

Leather Smart Cover for the iPad Mini

For Apple's larger iPads, there's an option to upgrade to a leather smart cover, for those that prefer the look and feel of leather. That function is mysteriously absent from the iPad Mini, but thankfully some 3rd party case makers have stepped up. Invellop's leatherette case is not genuine leather but still has the nice look and feel. It has all the usual smart cover functions, like sleep/wake and converting into multiple types of stands. It's also very much on sale at this moment.

Ionic Leather Cases on Amazon.com

This is an unconventional look for a leather case (although it's a synthetic leather case). it's a pebble-grain leather case from Ionic. It features a built in stand that locks into place (a neat feature, since I've had some iPad's slipping and falling off tables before).

Ionic has these cool rotating leather cases where you can view your iPad Mini in both portrait and landscape. The cases for the regular iPad are incredibly popular and I'm sure they will be for the iPad Mini as well. It's also a synthetic leather and comes in numerous colors, like Brown, Red, and Blue

Can't decide what color to get? Why not get two colors? The two tone cases feature a synthetic leather exterior and a soft microfibre interior that protects your iPad Mini. If you want more colorful options, there's also a purple/white case available.

Leather Keyboard iPad Mini Cases

One downside of the smaller iPad Mini screen is the on-screen keyboard. You could not type very fast on that keyboard, and now it's even more tiny! A keyboard case gives you the option of using your iPad Mini as a laptop that you can fire off emails, capture ideas, or just write creatively at a moment's notice.

Ionic's keyboard case connects to your iPad via bluetooth. There's a switch on the side of the keyboard that you use to turn the keyboard is on. The keyboard is also removable, in case you want to position it away from the iPad Mini's screen, or simply want to leave it at home and only use the case itself.

This is identical to Ionic's keyboard case described above except that it's white and red. If you want a keyboard case that will stand out more, or will fit better with your white iPad Mini, you have this option as well.

Leather Cases Debate

Do you prefer genuine leather or synthetic leather?

Boxwave Vegan Leather iPad Mini Case

iPad mini 1st Gen Case, BoxWave [Swivel Stand Case] Synthetic Leather Cover w/360 Roatating Stand for Apple iPad mini 1st Gen - Nero Black

Boxwave has taken it's popular Nero Leather case style design and brought it to the iPad Mini. The folio case features a swivel stand that you can use to view your iPad Mini in either landscape or portrait mode. There are cutouts so you can still access all of the iPad Mini's ports, as well as a nice cutout in the center that shows off the Apple logo. It also features an elastic strap that keeps your iPad sealed tight when not in use.

Vegan Friendly iPad Mini Cases

Animal friendly leather products are becoming more and more common as the technology to mimic genuine leather using synthetic materials improves all the time. There's over a dozen different synthetic leather materials (I won't get into each one, but if you're interested here's a Wikipedia article on the different types).

Speck Products FitFolio Protective Cover for iPad mini - Black (SPK-A1512)
Speck Products FitFolio Protective Cover for iPad mini - Black (SPK-A1512)

Speck is one of the most popular Apple case makers out there today. This case features a hard shell for extra protection, and is a little stiffer than the standard leather case. If you like the look of leather but want a little extra protection, this case is for you.

rooCASE Apple iPad Mini Case - Ultra Slim Stand Case - BLACK (With Smart Cover Auto Wake / Sleep)
rooCASE Apple iPad Mini Case - Ultra Slim Stand Case - BLACK (With Smart Cover Auto Wake / Sleep)

rooCase's main motivation here is for you to put the case on and then you'll forget it's there. The 'ultra-slim' case is as thin as a case can get. The protection won't be as heavy duty as other cases, but if you're looking for a minimalist leather case that looks good, this is it.
