Data can be in digital or analog. For example, text documents, images etc.. are stored in computers in the form of binary bits. Audio and Video takes the form of signal. Similarly Signal can be analog or digital.
For operations, digital data are preferred as it is very easy to manage, change, configure, do operations on the digital data.
For data transmission the data must be converted to signals so that they can be sent to the receiver. Line coding is the technique used for converting the digital data to digital signal. Although other techniques are there like block coding and scrambling, they may or may not be used.
Characteristics of Line Coding
The different Characteristics of Line Coding are:
1. Signal Element Vs Data Element
2. Data Rate Vs Signal rate
4. DC Component
6. Built-in Error Detection
8. Immunity to Noise
9. Baseline wandering
