The Best Portable Gaming Laptop Of 2012?

Welcome to our exclusive review of the new Origin EON11-S Laptop which is set to become one of the best selling portable gaming computers on the market in 2012. Although in a small form factor don't be fooled by the power this little beauty can expel in terms of visual delight and eye retina candy. Packing an extremely powerful third generation Intel Core central processing unit (CPU), otherwise known as Ivy Bridge as well as a super impressive NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M Graphics chip set, you can be rest assured that this little beauty is the cream of the crop in it's niche and is set to dominate the portable gaming arena for months to come. Read on for my personal review of the Origin EON11-S as I delve into the more juicer aspects of this one of a kind portable gaming laptop that is set to take 2012 by the balls!

Origin CEO and co-founder Kevin Wasielewsk

"Everyone dreams of a laptop that is smaller, lighter, has a longer battery life and has the ability to play all of the latest PC games well. The EON11-S makes that dream a reality and without making any 'ultra-sacrifices.'"

Origin EON11-S Custom Gaming Laptop - Overview, Specifications & Features

I HAVE THE POWEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRR!

Unlike many other brands of gaming notebook on the market, the Eon11-S comes in a variety of flavours depending on your budget. Practically every aspect of your purchase can be customised from the graphics chipset itself right down to the chasis you prefer to have you box of wonders cased in. In terms of processing power you have 3 options at hand, the Intel core i7, i5 or the B960. Hard drive storage, RAM, DVD or Bluray ( Bluray is an external option) options as well as even being able to opt in for a custom paint job make this little beauty of a laptop more appealing than anything else out there.

This 11 inch gaming beauty is one of a kind with no other product offering powerful gaming performance in a portable shell. The only other real contender to the Origin EON11-S is Dells Alienware MX11, which funnily enough is designed and created in large by some of the former employees of Alienware tech. Sadly the MX11 will be discontinued to make way for the Origin offering which is sure to upset many whilst at the same time excite those wanting something fresh.

The MX11 - Sadly to be discontinued :-(

Making way for the EON11-S!

The 6.5 hour battery life is quite impressive considering the power behind this little unit which is backed by NVIDIA'S Optimus technology. Weighing in under 4.5 pounds, the EON11-S can be customised on purchase in nearly every aspect with the company even offering custom paint jobs for those wanting something truly unique. All this new technology comes at a price with prices starting at $999. If you are serious about gaming on the go and don't want the headache of lugging around dumbbell of a laptop then you should consider seriously having a look at this wonder of gaming notebook.

Awesome lens! Do you know if it supports 1080p native or is it 720p?

@360flashing: The native resolution of the EON11-S is 720p. It does support full 1080p providing you have a display that support 1080p and output via HDMI :-)

@SadSquid: Macbook air laptops are great, I personally use one for work reasons but for gaming they don't cut the mustard in my opinion, especially in terms of flexibility and multimedia usage.

This is a great little piece on a great little laptop. There are quite few companies pushing Clevo-based laptops however - for example Maingear, Eurocom, Mythlogic and XoticPC all resell Clevo. So there are other options outside the Origin Eon-11. One other thing is the CPU on the unit is the 3612QM quad core, not the 3770 in your graph comparison, I think you know this as you have the correct spec higher in your lens. The memory is 1333 MHz DDR3. I have no idea why the 1600MHz is listed on their site as an option for this model as it does not ship with the 3612QM i7 Ivy Bridge chipset. Perhaps it is available with the two lower end processors? Anyway I like your lens a lot and in fact just picked up one of these little guys. One thing that worries is that the i7 / NVidia chipsets will get toasty and the unit sadly has the air intake on the bottom of the case, so watch out for using it in bed or on a surface that may impede the airflow from the bottom. Nice job on the article though.

@dirk-vaberman: Hey Dirk! I am glad you like the lens :-) Thanks.

Yeh I know what you mean about the graph, my mistake, just realised when you mentioned. As for RAM issue funnily enough all the models come as standard with 1333 mhz DDR3. I did notice this early on when making a purchase but I felt the need to leave it on the spec sheet as thought perhaps Origin were planning on offering further variations, but as of yet they haven't. I think I will remove this to avoid confusion, if origin do make an update I will then update the lens then, best that way. So you got one of these babies to? I upgraded from my MX11, really impressed, like you I feel the only negative point would be the toasting. A few nights back my laptop shutdown due to an intense gaming session in bed, nothing unusual as it happened few times with my MX11 and I guess happens with any laptop used on a material or surface that block airflow. I take it you went for the top of the range processor? Did you get a custom paint job?

@cheapmicrowave lm: I recently just got one of these, maxed out, mine did come with 16 gigs of vengeance ram at 1600mhz. Its blazing fast little machine. so far has ran every game I have thrown at it. Cooling has not been an issue as it copper intake and air flow system works wonders. I have noticed on games like xcom that is runs warm. I not sure if i am doing something wrong. but it plays.
