Pintastic! Using Pinterest for Business
Pinterest - the hottest thing right now in Social Media?
We are living in an age of what many refer to as 'Facebook lethargy'! Pinterest is hot, creative and sexy. Pinterest is the third most popular social media site after Facebook and Twitter, and I believe that it is the way forward for social media in 2013.
70% of Pinterest users are female - great if you are a business aiming at a female market. There is also a high proportion of users based in the US. If you have a creative side, or maybe a product based, photography or travel business, Pinterest is the social media platform for you.
Read on for advice on maximising your use out of Pinterest.
How do I use Pinterest?
Anyone can set up a Pinterest account. It is fast and easy. You simply go to www.pinterest.com and sign up with your email and a password. You can also sign in through Facebook and Twitter.
Planning is important - think about your boards carefully. The more unique and exciting the better. Also, try to pin original content. If you are using content from elsewhere, remember to have persmission and credit the source. Don't forget that you can use #hashtags on Pinterest to make things more searchable, just like on Twitter.
To make progress with your Pinterest account, try to pin 5 pins a day, as well as using Pinterest Interactively.
Kigali Crafts on Pinterest
Kigali Crafts is a company that supports Rwandan genocide survivors through fair trade. They have used Pinterest boards to display their products. They have also used Pinterest for educational purposes including recommending films and books about the Rwandan genocide to raise awareness. Kigali Crafts also contribute to other fair trade Pinterest boards to increase their profile.
How to use Pinterest for Business - Using Pinterest Interactively
The key with Pinterest is to avoid too much self promotion. Add the odd board that is exciting, even though it may be unrelated to your business. You will need to engage with others by liking, repinning and commenting on their pins. If you add a high number of pins in one short space of time, you might 'overload' your followers, and force them to unfollow. So little and often seems to be the key to Pinterest success.
Use Pinstamatic to add extra Pins
Pinstamatic is a free online platform that allows you to add more than just photos to your Pinterest boards. With Pinstamatic, you can...
Put quotations on your boards to grab the interest and attention of other Pinterest users.
Share your favourite music and let your friends play songs directly from your board.
Add a clickable map of your company's location to your corporate board.

Using Reachli to Advertise or become a Publisher
Reachli is the rebranded former 'pinnerly' that allows you to improve Pinterest campaigns. It can help you to gain brand awareness. Reachli also helps you to increase engagement with your audience.
You can advertise through Reachli, and they claim to have access to over 3.5 million unique users. But you have to be prepared to part with some well earned cash! You can also earn money by becoming a Reachli publisher, by using Reachli's 'in-image' advertising.
Social Media Books
This is my favourite social media book. Dave Kerpen uses excellent examples of social media success and failure to help you to understand how to use Pinterest in your business.
