Power surges can destroy, and damage your sensitive electronics like computer, laptop, tablet, and smartphone, so you would need a surge protector to protect your electronics.

Protecting your computer from power surges is very easy to do. You just need to plug in your computer, electronics, and electrical goods like a smartphone charger into a surge protected power bar.

Surge protectors are very easy to use. You just need to buy a surge protected power bar from a store, and plug it into a grounded Wall power outlet. After you are done setting up your surge protector, you need to plug in your computer, telephone, chargers, printer, scanner, and other sensitive electronic devices like DVD players, TVs, DVRs, etc into the surge protector. A lot of surge protectors also have a light to tell you it is on, and working. Some surge protector also have a ground light to tell you that the plug you are using to plug in the surge protector is properly grounded. More expensive surge protectors may have a sound alarm which will go off when you need to replace the surge protector with a new one because a very powerful power surge broke your surge protector.

To protect your computer, and electronics from black outs, and brownouts, you need to plug your devices into a UPS power supply. The UPS stand for Un-Interrupted power supply. A UPS has a battery in it which will turn on when it detects there is no power coming from the wall's power because of a power failure like a black out.

You just need to plug in your electronics into the surge protector, and plug your surge protector into the wall's power outlets.

In many cases, a $15-30 surge protector is good enough to protect stuff like your computer, electronics, and television from power surges. A cheap surge protector is better than no surge protection for your electronics, and computers which could cost many thousands of dollars to replace when a power surge breaks your electronics by frying its circuits, and parts.

An Uninterrupted power supply also called a UPS power supply will protect your electronics, computers, and other electrical devices from losing power because of a blackout.
