Making Snowflakes Online at Snowdays
Have Fun Making Virtual Snowflakes
Remember folding a piece of paper and cutting bits out of it to make a snowflake? It was a lot of fun. Now you can make one like that online and even send it with a message to a friend. No little bits of paper to clean up afterwards with these snowflake designs. Here's how to do it.
The website is called SNOWDAY and you will be amazed at some of the designs people make on the site. There are snowflake makers from all over the world and snowflake messages in all different languages. Give it a try and maybe you'll become a master snowflake maker.

Get Started on Snowdays
Bring up Snowdays in a separate window (side-by-side with this one). Click on the photo to go to the Snowdays website.
Allow a few seconds for the site to open.
Get oriented by clicking on the white snow falling in the scene on your computer. Each one will open into a snowflake design that someone created. Many will have messages in them. They come from all over the U.S. and the world (Hungary, Italy, Australia, etc.).
Alternate Sites for Making Snowflakes - in the rare times when SnowDays is down
I tried these but didn't like any of them nearly as much as SnowDays by Popular Front.
If SnowDays happens to be down one day, these give you something to fall back on for entertainment and your snowflake fix.

Aren't snowflakes pretty! If you choose the 'Copy to Clipboard' option you can then paste the image of your snowflake in a word processor or graphics program (then you can print from there!).
Interacting with Others on Snowdays
You can respond to the message in a snowflake by clicking on the orange RESPOND button. If you see a particularly lovely design, put a compliment on it. You can even print out a snowflake that you like.
If you see a really marvelous design, you can search for other flakes by the same artist. Remember their name and location, then click on FIND-A-FLAKE. Put the name and location in and hit search. All the flakes made by that person will start to fall.
Making Your Own Flake
The Creative Side of Snowdays
Now that you see what others are doing, make your own flake. Just click on CREATE-YOUR-OWN-SNOWFLAKE. The site folds the paper so it's ready for you to cut out your design (click and drag with your mouse). A preview of the finished flake shows on the left, so you can see how each cut turns out.
If you make a mistake, click on UNDO. If it gets messy, click RESET and start over fresh. Each flake you make is unique. Once you are satisfied with the flake, click on DONE.
Send Snowflake Messages Using SNOW DAYS
To Your Friends and Family
Next it asks for your name and location, message (optional), and email address. No one sees your email address, but you get a notice when anyone comments on the flake. If you don't want to bother with that, just leave the email line blank. Click on ADD.
It then asks if you want to send it to friends. Add their email addresses and click SEND or choose NO THANKS. Watch the falling snow, and right away, the flake you designed appears with an arrow saying YOUR FLAKE.
The site is addictive. Once you start making snowflakes, perfecting your techniques and interacting with others on the site, you can't stop.

Great Music for Winter Listening (and Snowflaking)
These songs all have a haunting beauty to them and are very soothing and peaceful--the perfect kind of background music for the holiday season or any other time of the year.
Some reviewers on Amazon say they like this one even better than the first Winter's Solstice.

Want to See My Snowflakes That I Made on Snowdays?
You can go to the Snowdays website and look at all the snowflakes people make and the messages they put on them. Down in the left hand corner you can FIND-A-FLAKE. If you put in Shannon and Belle Plaine, it brings up my sister, Shannon's snowflake from 12-02-03.
You can bring them up by number also. On 12-06-08, I made a tribute snowflake for Shannon. It is number 7217122 if you want to see it. You can even leave a message on it. If you put in Ginger and for the location Florida, it brings up 2500 flakes. I didn't make all of those as there are a few other Gingers in Florida apparently. My specialty was twinkle flakes, so if you click on one of the Ginger flakes and it opens with a little twinkle to it, then that's mine.
I checked and found some of mine that you can see. Twinkle ones: 4576440 and 2462900. I also made figural ones. Here's a Halloween one: 2689996. While there, I made a few new ones for old times sake, but I can see that I'm out of practice.
