Sprint Family Locator - WARNING: Read This Before Signing Up

Updated on September 21, 2014

I have some IMPORTANT INFORMATION for you about the Sprint Family Locator cell phone tracking service. One the best things about Sprint's cell phone tracker service is that you don't need a special cell phone and you don't need to install cell phone tracking software onto the the phone. This makes the Sprint tracker perfect if you don't want someone to know they you are tracking them.

Here's the important thing about privacy that you must know. When you add a cell phone to the Sprint Locator service, the phone will get a text message on it alerting the phone owner that the phone is now connected to the Sprint tracking service.

Sprint has this feature built into their tracking service to protect the privacy of their customers. From time to time, Sprint may send out a text message reminding the phone user that the phone can be tracked via the Sprint Family Locator service.

The possibilities with the Sprint Locator are virtually endless!

A Brief Introduction To The Sprint Family Locator

Today I'd like to tell you about a very cool service that Sprint has for their customers called the Sprint Family Locater. Sprint is one of the mobile companies that has realized that since cell phone manufacturers are installing GPS receivers on all of their cell phones now day's, they could make use of the GPS receiver and easily make cell phone tracking available to their customers.

The ability to track people with their cell phone is one of the greatest innovations in cell phone technology in a longtime. It is perhaps second only to being able to make phone calls. With a cell phone tracker installed on the cell phone you can instantly locate your friends and family members.

The peace of mind that one receives from having a cell phone tracker installed on their cellphone is hard to describe. No more wondering where your wife is if she's an hour late getting home from work. All you have to do is log onto a computer and you'll instantly see her location. If she's been in the same spot for the last 10 minutes chances are, she's stuck in traffic.

With the Sprint family locater service you can have peace of mind knowing that you can track down your loved ones at any time.

Sprint Family Locator Details

Unlike some free cell phone tracking services, Sprint charges a small fee in order to be able to use their cell phone tracking service. Sprint provides a great product with their Family Locator service and the meager fee of $5.00 a month isn't too much to ask for the peace of mind that you'll receive when you know that you can locate your family members at an instant with this product.

Sprint realizes that some people might be reluctant to try the service since it is a fairly new technology. To ease people's minds and give them a chance to try it out, Sprint will let you try the service for free for 15 days. If after you have tried the service for 15 days, you decide that you like it and want to keep it, you will be billed $5.00 a month.

This fee will enable you to track up to four cell phones that are in your Family Locator network. If you need to be able to track more than four cell phones, I believe you can pay extra and have more phones added to your tracking network.

One very nice feature to the Sprint Family Locator is that you aren't required to have a special model of phone in order for tracking to work on it. The service will work with all Sprint and Nextel cell phones. This is especially nice if you have an older phone that doesn't have the capability of having software installed on it.

If you do have a nice new smart phone, Sprint has made a very cool free application that you can download and install on your smart phone that will enable you to track the members of your Sprint Family Tracker network directly from your cell phone. The application has a map and the location of your family members will instantly show up on the map when you run the application.

Sprint Family Locator To Find Lost Cell Phones

Every day, thousands of cell phones around the world are misplaced, lost,or stolen. If you subscribe to the Sprint Family Tracker service and lose your phone, you can instantly log onto any computer with an Internet connection and find its location.

Imagine all the trouble it will save you if you happen to lose or misplace your cell phone. In just a matter of seconds, you can log on to an Internet connected computer to find out where you left it.

The only limitations are that the phone has to be turned on and it must be in the Sprint service coverage area. I believe the service will work even if you are roaming so as long as the phone has a cell phone signal, you should be able to use the Sprint Tracker to find your lost phone.

There Are No Hidden Fees With The Sprint Family Locator

With the Sprint Tracker cell phone phone tracker, there are no hidden fees to surprise you when you receive your bill. You can do an unlimited number of searches when you subscrib to the service. Whether you do 1000 searches or 2 searches, you will only be billed $5.00 a month.

You don't need to subscribe to a data plan in order to use the service. This is unique among cellphone tracking services as most of them do require you to subscribe to a data plan.

For only $5.00 a month, you can have the peace of mind of knowing that you will always know exactly where your family members are. God forbid this should happen but imagine that one of your loved ones is abducted by a kidnapper. As long as they have their cell phone with them and it's turned on, the police will be able to find their exact location and recover your stolen loved one quickly an unharmed. $5.00 a month almost seems like too little to ask for such a service.

The Coolest Feature Of The Sprint Family Locator

The coolest feature of the Sprint Family Locator has to be the ability to automatically send you text messages that contain your family members location at predetermined intervals.  Sprint really thought of everything when it came to their spin on cell phone tracking.

With just a couple of clicks of a mouse and a couple of keystrokes you can set the system to automatically send you a text message with the exact location of your family members at a predetermined time of the day.

Imagine the peace of mind you will get knowing that your children made it home from school safely every day.  With this Sprint Family Locator feature, you can easily program the service to send you a text message at the exact time that your children are supposed to arrive home from school every day.  If they are supposed to be home by 3:30 PM, you will get a text message with their location at exactly 3:30 PM.  No more being interrupted from your busy work schedule with phone calls notifying you that your children made it home from school safely.  You simply read the text message that notifies you that your children made it home on time.

The number of uses for this feature are almost too numerous to mention.  Sprint really added value to their cell phone tracking service by building this feature into it.

You can only track phones on your plan. It's not like you can spy on random people

I just lost my iPhone 4 with a 2 year contract with sprint, the iPhone is on, and does have signal, I'm using sprint family locator service (because I had find my iPhone disabled) and registered all my family's iPhones, (all iphone 4's and all with 2 year sprint contracts) and when it gives me the option to locate and I click "Locate" I get this error message "device could not be located at this time." so I thought that maybe my lost phone was off or couldn't reach any signal, but then I tried to locate another family member's phone, which was right next to me, it was fully charged, max signal, I got the sprint family locator messages, but when I pressed locate I got the same error message, is there anything I can do to make it work? I have tried this on two different computers.

I think this is an invasion of privacy and could be used without the persons knowledge? This app is just wrong on so many levels.

I have 4 phones on the same Sprint Plan and all are available for tracking - different types of phones. However, it's not too exact if you need that, often times within 200 yards, I've even had within a mile. So it'll get you to the right area but not exact location, which works for me, however a considerable limitation.

My husband and I want to be able to track each other for security purposes. We are both on the same sprint plan but have different makes of phones (blackberry and LG remarq). We are told we can't do that. Only one of us can track the other. We may look for another locator plan.

Once you subscribe to it, it sends a text to the phones you are locating. After that does it inform them that you are tracking them ever. Do they get daily, monthly, yrly reminders that they are being tracked?

The Sprint Family Locator is very accurate. You can test this for yourself by downloading Google Latitude and doing a test to see how accurately it finds your location. Then you can sign up for the free trial of the Sprint Family Locator and see if does a better job. You won't have to pay anything either way.

Is this as accurate as Google Latitude? Do you know what the most accurate cell phone locator app is? I need to use the most accurate one for something very important and I'm kind of in a hurry. Thanks in advance for your answer.
