I don't recall ever finding free on-line TTS, but do remember hearing it on an old Apple desktop way way back in the olden days of desktops.

Now I have to go try them out. I am not needing it (I am not disabled or having issues with my eyes) but I can put it on while I do other stuff and try to learn or get the news while I am doing stuff in another window the requires less vocal processing in my mind! Maybe I can get some info while I tidy my messy computer desk. I have less excuses now, for sure.

A very useful lens. I would only say that some browser add-ons offer text to speech functionality for free. These online translators are not primarily designed as text to speech programs but can be used by non-advanced users alongside specialized software tools. Thanks.

Earlier versions with microsoft sam were very hard to listen to. Now the poliferation is well established so the quality has improved dramatically. I am using and testing several types for my readers on my Blog so I have found some unique advantages for both visually and physically disabled individuals. They can also be used as an excellent editor for ones own work as we tend to miss mistaken that these readers catch . Great lens ! Thanks for sharing! Regards Aka Professor Mike! ;D

I remember the early days of these programs, they were so awful at deciphering stars and stops of sentences and would get a lot of words just plain wrong. Nowadays you have high quality programs on your smartphone that can do the same. I personally don't use it often at all but I can see how someone with a disability would benefit.

I create spiritual/metaphysical videos. I personally do not like the sound of my own voice for lengthy audio on a video project; therefore, had been using the default "Microsoft Sam". With VozMe, I can choose either female or male voice to give the messages. I also caption what is said on the video for hearing impaired. This can come in handy with text to speech does not know how to properly say words (like "cocoon" or "ascension" or "Pleiadian"). People do like to hear these "canned voices" on these types of videos, so I plan to keep using this particular method. Thank you for this!

www.TTSEngine.com is a text-to-speech webservice that supports multiple file formats including mp3.

They give thousands of free requests per month, and also offer a cool custom voice service, where you can send them audio files of a person, and they will give you a TTS that speaks with their voice!

I have a friend who, whenever she gets a cold, loses her voice completely for about 24 hours. She uses a text-to-voice online program to get by. Her kids get a big kick out of picking out a new voice for her. These are handy programs, and I imagine they're a great help to people with speech problems.

Use the Text Speaker text to speech software. It has customizable pronunciation and can create WAV or MP3's from your text. The bundled voices are well priced and there is an excellent selection of text to speech voices.
