Why Consider a Tablet Laptop Combo?
What are the advantages of a tablet laptop combo device? Simple. They give users many of the best features of each.
Tablets in general offer the simple intuitive navigation of a multi-touch screen. Laptops allow greater productivity and comfort when working for longer periods of time with their keyboard. A convertible tablet offers users both.
Tablets are much thinner and lighter than a laptop, making them perfect for a very mobile lifestyle. Certainly, laptops are portable as well but they can weigh over 5 lbs whereas most tablets weigh in the neighborhood of 1.5lbs. The tablet laptop combo devices tend to weigh between 2 and 3lbs.
Beyond this, tablets are generally a better choice for general web browsing, staying connected with your social network no matter where you are, and for general entertainment types of things; watching video, listening to music, reading ebooks, and so forth. Laptops and perhaps netbooks, have been better choices if you need to do more serious computing or work for longer periods of time. Certainly, having an actual keyboard makes typing much more efficient. A tablet laptop device that allows you to get the best of both experiences can be ideal for many people.
Choosing a Tablet Laptop Device
Choosing the right tablet laptop device is similar to choosing any computing device. While there are many things to consider, here are just a few key items, including some that are unique to these devices.
- Configuration and Size
Tablet laptop devices can look like standard laptops or netbooks. The screen and keyboard remain attached but, the screen can be rotated so that it can be held like a tablet and function like one with touch navigation. The tablet will be a bit heavier and thicker. Others may be thinner and lighter tablets like a more traditional tablet, but they can dock with a keyboard when users want that functionality.
- Operating System
Android, iOS, or Windows? It will probably depend upon what apps and what software a consumer wants to be able to use.
- Processing Power
When consumers consider any type of computing device (desktop, laptop, and so forth) they need to consider how much computing power they need. Most tablet/laptop devices currently offer either single or dual core processors, unlike the heftier quad core processors found in some laptops.
Most users will need 2GB of RAM or more. If a user will be watching/storing a great deal of video or gaming on their convertible tablet, they will need a larger than average hard drive, so comparing can be important.
- Battery Life
Tablet laptops are prized for their portability. Nothing ruins the experience more than a battery that goes dead everytime you are out and about. Manufacturers will indicate average battery life.
