10. Jimi Hendrix's Red Fender Mustang
Jimi used this 1966 red Mustang guitar a lot during the times he recorded the albums, Electric Ladyland and Axis Bold as Love. This guitar fetched $480,000 at a charity auction in Music Rising or Icons of Music in 2007 in New York that was organizing for New Orleans musicians who lost their music instruments to Hurricane Katrina to help them buy new ones.These guitars are the top 10 guitars sold and they stand out for their fame, nature of their use, the songs they sang and the beautiful memories they left on their buyers' minds.

This 1956 Fender model named Brownie was one of the guitars Clapton liked. He used it for all the classic recordings he made in 1970 Dominos album, Derek and other love songs. The guitar was sold in June 1999 at an action organized by Christies in New York for $497,500 which makes it one of the top 10 guitars sold.
7. George Harrison's Gibson SG
This 1964 Cherry Gibson SG strikes as one of the top 10 guitars sold and is a standard guitar that was played and owned by Harrison in 1966 till 1969 and was played at the Beatles final official gig in Britain at NME Poll concert organized for winners. It was also played by Jon Lennon when recording Revolver and the White Album. The guitar was sold for $567,500 in December 2004 at Christie's auction and stand as one of the top 10 guitars sold.
6. Stevie Ray Vaughan's Lenny Fender Stratocaster
This is the only Vaughan's guitar that was sold after he died in 1990. The 1965 Composite Fender Stratocaster was among Vaughan's favorite models. It was marked with 'SRV' sticker and called Lenny, his first wife's name. The model was sold at Christie's in 2004 at Eric Clapton's Crossroads in which it fetched $623,500.
5. Eric Clapton's 1939 Martin Acoustic Guitar
This 1939 OOO-42 pre war guitar was used a lot by Clapton in his 1992 Eric Clapton album which is one of his best selling records and icons of his career in which a million copies were sold. The guitar makes it to the top 10 guitars sold with a whopping $791,500 it fetched at Crossroads Guitar Auction that was held in New York in 2004.
4. Eric Clapton's 1964 Gibson
ES-335 TDC 1964 Gibson guitar is the most expensive guitar ever sold by Gibson in an action. Gibson owned this guitar for over 30 years when he worked with John Mayall's, Yardbirds, Blind Faith, and Bluesbreakers and also on his own. Clapton used this guitar for over 25 years during his recordings and also used it only for classic blues on stage. This guitar makes it as one of the top 10 guitars sold with it collecting $847,500 at Crossroads Charity Guitar auction in 2004.
3. Eric Clapton's 'Blackie' Stratocaster
Blackie is the most famous guitar that Clapton ever used for his recording sessions and live performances since 1973 to 1985. Clapton felt that the guitar was part of him but in 1985, he retired the guitar for a new Eric Clapton Signature Stratocaster. This guitar is known by its legendary name "Blackie" and is one the top 10 guitars sold. The guitar fetched $959,500 at Christies during Crossroads Charity Guitar Auction in 2004.
2. Jimi Hendrix's Woodstock Stratocaster
Hendrix made his biggest appearance in August 1969 in Woodstock when he made an amazing performance of Star Spangled Banner using this 1968 white Fender Stratocaster guitar. The guitar fetched $198,000 when it was sold to an Italian collector, Gabriele Ansaloni in 1990 at an auction who later sold it in 1993 to Paul Allen who is a Hendrix collector and Microsoft co-founder at $1.3 million rising it to the top 10 guitars sold list.
1. Reach out to Asia Fender Stratocaster
This is one of the top 10 guitars sold and ranks as the world's most expensive guitar even though its history is not famous. This guitar has the highest number of signature and was a donation made to Reach Out, an Asian charity auction that took place in 2005 with the aim of helping victims of Asian Tsunami. It had the signatures of famous rock 'n' roll icons like Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, Jeff Beck, Keith Richards, Paul McCartney, and Pete Townsend among others. The guitar fetched $2.7 million.
