The specs are the most important things you need to know when buying a pair of headphones. When you just look on the box the specs will seem very confusing, but that is just why I have written this article, so you know exactly what they mean.

I started off by only owning one pair of in-ear headphones that were cheap \$5 ones. I had no idea what any of the specs were and did not really care at first. Then I started to learn about how in-ear headphones work and I got very interested. Then I learned about the specs and how they worked. And let me tell you at first I was stumped, I was about to give up, because they were so confusing. However I stuck with it and soon figured them out. I have written them down for you in a way that I know you will understand, with examples and all, and I only tell about the things you really need to know.

## Headphones Specifications You Need to Know

Frequency Response:

When you look on a box of headphones you will see numbers like 60Hz-25Hz, 15Hz-20kHz. You may look at them and just skip over them but you really need to know what those numbers mean. What they mean is the range that your in-ear headphones audio frequencies can produce. The sound is measured in hertz(Hz). So the higher the hertz is then the deeper the bass you will have.

An example would be lets say you had two pairs of headphones and one said 60Hz and the other said 15Hz. The second pair of headphones with the 15Hz will have a much deeper bass than the 60Hz one. However the higher the number is means you will have less bass, but you will have a much higher treble. Now in most cases the kilohertz(kHz) will not matter that much, because a human ear can only hear up to about 20kHz and even that will make someone deaf. When looking for a pair of in-ear headphones you want on that has a wide range.

If you like to hear more bass, then look for a lower frequency range, but if you want a better treble then look at a higher range. For most people the best pair will be a wide range, so you can hear everything just right.

Impedance:

All in-ear headphones run on electricity. Electricity carries a vibration frequency and makes a very annoying hissing sound. To make that hissing sound go away you will need impedance. Impedance is measured in ohms. A better set of headphones with a less hissing sound will be in the range of over 25 ohms. A lower quality pair will be in a range of under 25 ohms. So just remember the higher the impedance the hissing sound you will hear.

Sensitivity:

Sensitivity is measured in decibels (dB) and sound pressure levels (SPL). 0dB is the lowest possible sound you can get while still hearing something. 85dB is the highest sound you should listen too, if you play any higher than that for a long period of time, then you could lose your hearing. You should always remember this, if someone has to yell to talk to you while you are listening to music, then your music is too loud and you should turn it down.

Also remember this, if you play loud music over and over constantly, your in-ear headphones will have a much shorter life. So when you buy a pair of in-ear headphones you want it to play loud but that does not mean you should play it loud.

Driver:

A driver is what gives your in-ear headphones the best sound possible. The driver will boost up the bass and will give your headphones a lot more power than if they did not have any. In a pair of over-ear headphones there are four drivers and that is why they are very expensive and have great sound. Each driver is meant to boost up different sound: treble, mids, and bass.

In most pairs of in-ear headphones there are only two drivers, because they are much smaller than over-ear headphones. However in-ear headphones are a lot cheaper than over-ear headphones and they will still give you a great experience while listening to your music. Remember the bigger the driver size is the better sound you will have.

## The Best Way to Keep Your In-ear Headphones Lasting Longer

The best way to keep you in-ear headphones in good condition is to clean them. Cleaning them will make them last longer and will give better sound quality once they are clean. However to clean them you have to do it gently and make sure you get everywhere. So here is the best way to clean your in-ear headphones:

Step 1: Mix together soap and warm water (or you can use dishwashing soap and water).

Step 2: Dip a soft cloth into the water mixture and clean everywhere on your in-ear headphones. Make sure you only use a little of the soap mixture, if you use to much then the soap could damage your headphones by leaving the soap residue on them.

NOTE: If there is a lot of dirt on the metal part of your headphones, then using a dry toothbrush, brush the dirt off.
