My Top 5 Unique Online Stores

Updated on July 25, 2012

I'm a lover of unique, strange, quirky or just plain unnatural products. I don't know why, but something about their matchlessness intrigues me.

Since I spend so much time on the web anyway and stumble on so many sites that sell interesting items, I thought I'd share my top-five list with you.

So here goes.

Thisiswhyimbroke.com

I came across this site because a man sitting in front of me spent an hour and a half perusing it. Out of curiosity, I did some treasure hunting of my own. This site has some of the most bizarre items I have seen. It's basically a conglomerate of kooky things from other sites like Amazon and Etsy. They have just about everything imaginable. I kid you not; I found caffeinated soap the other day. They even have PacMan ukuleles!

I believe the prices here are very reasonable; that is, if you aren't looking to buy something outrageous like a water jet pack (yes, they actually do sell those). The breakdowns include price range and what type of item you are looking for. Very navigable.

So, come this Christmas, when you're trying to find something for that one unpredictable, eccentric friend, this would be a great place to start fishing for ideas!

Thinkgeek.com

This site is geared toward the more technologically adept crowd. However, it isn't limited to just techies. It has many products for all kinds of enthusiasts. For example, people who play guitar (or just love collecting things having to do with guitars) could purchase guitar pick punch or a shirt that actually PLAYS like a guitar. You might have to do some minimal hunting of your own. But it'll be completely worth it.

Prices here are also pretty reasonable and are broken down into whatever price range you are aiming for. Definitely a great one-stop shop for all the gadget-lovers reading this.

8 GB Silver Robot USB Drive

Almost every one uses some type of USB drive these days to store important documents, pictures, and music. This fun USB contains 8B to hold all of it. And it's comes at a pretty good price.

Fredflare.com

They've got a little bit of normal AND a little bit of quirk. They've got regular clothes and all, and on the side, they have goofy items such as Facebook "like" cufflinks, bacon pancake mix, and fortune cupcakes. Everything here is very playful, cute and clever in terms of merchandise and site lay out. Accompanying the site is also a goofy blog. Really puts a smile in your face...if you're into that stuff.

Pricing, in my opinion is on the slighty higher end, but there are definitely little perks here and there, such as free shipping if you spend $75. I guarantee you, that won't be very hard.

Neatoshop.com

This is more or less a myriad of online "shops" built into one site. My personal favorite was the bacon store. I mean, who knew bacon frosting actually existed? I sure didn't!

Their other stores include the Zombie Store, Cute Store, and a page reserved for geeks and scientists. They also have a great selection of funny and witty shirts (my personal favorites are, "Trust me, I'm a scientist" and "Every time someone uses Facebook, a real book dies"). It's broken down very nicely, very navigable, and the prices are also reasonable.

Uncommongoods.com

The name speaks for itself-goods that are uncommon. This site sells items that are more "green" and "earth friendly", seeing as they have a page dedicated to recycled items. They also have a page for handmade items. It's very well maintained and organized. In fact, they break down the categories into things such as "gifts for the animal lover" or "gifts for the couple. The merchandise is on the slightly pricier side, but there are a few steals here. If you or a family member or friend are into saving the earth and carbon footprints and all that good stuff, this would be a great site to come and pamper yourself!

How about you? What are some of the unique stores you enjoy?

Well done. These stores really know what they are doing: clean layouts, clearly-displayed shipping info, promotions....

Love the sites! It was fun just reading about them. RocketSquid lens question...Your photo credit leads to someplace called Seagate....not sure about the attributions for your photos. Otherwise, very nice lens.
