Voyage-Air Folding Neck A Different Type Of Travel Guitar

Updated on September 20, 2014

Voyage-Air Folding Neck Travel Guitar

A Voyage-Air Folding Travel Guitar is a different type of guitar which utilizes new folding neck technology that allows it to fit almost anywhere. This guitar literally folds in half so you can take it on trips, hikes and picnics. It has its own backpack is easy to carry, sounds great and comes in versions suitable for novice or pro. Voyage-Air has even come out with an electric-axe guitar (currently sold out of course).

This is going at the top of my wish list, even though I haven't picked up "any" guitar in several years. Trust me, the world hasn't been missing a thing. For me, it was never anything more than a simple pleasure to pick up my guitar, tune it badly, and strum out a triad of chords. I actually still have a Blueridge acoustic guitar away in a closet somewhere. No matter, I think what I need now is a folding guitar.

Jeff Cohen, the founder and CEO of Voyage-Air has appeared on the TV show "Shark Tank" several times since his initial visit, in what I believe was season one. It's unusual for the Sharks to bring back a guest more than once let alone the four five times Jeff has appeared. I saw the Voyage-Air guitar for the first time on an episode of "Shark Tank" in the fall of "2012". I believe on this particular episode Jeff Cohen was just striking a deal with Martin Guitars.

I used to have a Martin Backpacker, but ended up selling it a few years ago when I was going through my eBay phase. Unlike the Voyage-Air the Martin was not designed with the classic guitar styling. It was more like a full neck with a smaller trapezoidal body. It looked like something from a renaissance festival. You'll see a picture of a backpacker farther down in the lens.

It appears that other players in the travel guitar space are "Washburn", "Johnson" and "Traveler". Each of these guitar makers have at least one version of a travel style guitar. I don't know a thing about them, but I've listed them farther down the page as well.

The folding travel guitars by Voyage-Air are way cool and the reviews I've been reading give the impression that all of their guitars are well made and present a quality sound. Maybe Santa will bring me one next year, and of course there is always my Birthday ((wink, wink)).
