3 Amazing Places To Visit in Greece
Town of Nafplion, Greece
1.) Nafplio; A little known Romantic Hideaway on the Peloponnese Island in Greece
Nafplio is a beautiful romantic town with 3 castles on the coast in the Peloponnese Island. It's a few hours drive from Athens. This little town is not commonly known among tourists yet but is a popular hang out for Greek tourists. Its so beautiful.
My wife and I had the opportunity to spend some time in this place and fell in love with it. It was by far our favorite place in Greece that we have seen. Its a walkable town and has civilian streets through the town. Looking out into the bay, you can see a castle on an Island in the middle of the bay. There are also two massive fortresses on the mainland behind the town worth exploring. The largest fortress ascends straight up behind the town and has over 1000 stone stairs leading up into the fortress. It is also reachable by car. The fortress is so large you can spend an entire day exploring it.

A romantic town with 3 beautiful fortresses and a well designed walkway along the ocean.
2.) Santorini; A Beautiful Island in the Greek Cyclades
Santorini is that famous island you have likely seen pictures of that has all white building cast against a backdrop of clear blue sea. Marketed as a romantic getaway, it is a massive tourist attraction for visitors all over the world. It is a beautiful island with unique character and some cool things to do. The famous pictures you usually see of Santorini are from the town Oia in Greece.
You could spend a day or half day strolling through this beautiful little town and enjoying the white building, beautiful ocean views, and nice restaurants that they have. Many people like to stay in this part of the Island and in the summer it is probably the most expensive place to stay on the island, with some paying upwards of $1000 a night to stay here. In the summer, this town is super crowded and you can probably expect to be walking through the town almost shoulder to shoulder with other people. In the evenings, almost year round you can enjoy beautiful sunsets from here. Late April, beginning of May is perhaps one of the best times to enjoy the Island while its just opening for tourist season before the massive crowds hit.
There are many things you can do throughout the island. You can drive up to the monastery on the highest point of the island and enjoy a 360 degree view of the Island. You can swim at the black sand beach of Perissa and enjoy the Red beach in Akrotiri. To be honest though, the Island isn't known for its beaches. They are usable, but the sand is not that smooth.
People do not come here for the beaches, they come for the Island and the beauty it provides. This is an island worth spending about 2-3 days visiting.
The Historical Beauty of Athens
3. Athens; The Capital of Greece and Center of History
Athens is one of those place you should visit if you go to Greece because of its historical significance. But there is nothing exciting or romantic about the city itself. Its main draw is its archaeological sites which include places like the acropolis, temple of Zeus, Pantheon, Ancient Agora, and many museums and artifacts from ancient greece.
The city itself is very modern, pretty ugly, and generally a place for tourists to be cautious. Since the greek financial crisis, Greece has continued to deteriorate, the Greeks are often grumpy (not all, but many), and its good to be cautious and aware.
The Acropolis is the central attraction of Athens and when you get up to the top, you can see out over the whole city. In walking through the Acropolis I saw some unexpected things that were delightful including a greek turtle hanging out near the shrine of Aphrodite.
If you are someone that loves greek history, or is fascinated by the greek pantheon of gods, or simply loves, archeology, you will not want to miss the history attractions in this city.
