People Escape Cold Winters and High Taxes To Come To Mexico

Many people from Canada also relocate to Mexico to escape the cold winters, higher cost of living or for other reasons. But the reasons mentioned are only a small part of the reasons why many people decide to move to Mexico. So why is it that so many people move to Mexico but not Russia, Denmark, Japan or some other countries in this world? In my several years of reading about this fascinating topic, I have found that there are usually 5 major reasons why most people leave their home country in order to come to Mexico to live the rest of their life.

In fact, International Living Magazine discusses ten reasons why people should consider retiring to Mexico. Whether it is for retirement reasons or to have a higher quality of life compared to the country that people want to move from, this article is for you.

Retirement is cited as perhaps the most common reason for a move to Mexico

  1. Expats' Money During Their Retirement Years Goes Farther in Mexico

This is the major reason why most people move to Mexico. Many people that have worked hard during their working years and they have saved enough money now want to escape the high level of stress in their country and they want to live in a country that has a much slower pace of life compared to the place that they came from. Retirement in the United States is slowly becoming a luxury as many people have to use their 401K money or their IRA money in order to cover their expenses. Many of these people are finding out that they will not be able to retire because of their need to work. This is due to the fact that the cost of living in the United States has skyrocketed in many places and lots of people can no longer afford to retire and live off of their savings. So they move to Mexico in order to escape high cost of living, high taxes and stress. Mexico should be given much more credit than it deserves. This nation is more than just a hotbed for soccer. Mexico is a country in which those over the age of 65 can live a much higher quality of life and spend far less money.

Health Care At a More Affordable Price

2. Lower cost of health care compared to their own country

Mexico’s health care costs are actually at least 50% less than in the United States. With medical costs rising in the United States, people are looking for more affordable medical treatments. The quality is generally excellent in the major cities of Mexico and many of the doctors there are educated in the United States and they also have an excellent command of the English language. Older people that need access to cheaper health care also move to Mexico for this reason as well. It would make very logical sense for a person with health problems to move to Mexico. They can get various procedures done for much less money. To put some more perspective in terms of the overall costs associated with living in Mexico, International Living Magazine estimates that the cost of living in Mexico can be anywhere between 30 to 50% less than what we would probably pay for in the United States.

Many People are Attracted to the Warmer Weather of Mexico

3. They want to live in a place with warmer weather

Many people do not like to live in a place that has cold winters with snow and ice so they move to a warm weather country like Mexico. Although in some parts of Mexico there is much precipitation, Mexico does not have extremes of cold weather that is seen in many other countries. I would not move to a place only because of its weather but this is something that many people do.

Lower Living Costs

4. The living costs in Mexico are generally lower than the United States

Depending upon the area of Mexico that a person chooses to move to, living costs in Mexico are usually much less than the United States or Canada. In fact, you can live very well on $300 a month in some places in Mexico. People that move to Mexico save a large amount of money in the long term. I addressed this point in Reason #2. International Living Magazine reports that “the overall cost of living in Mexico can be 30% to 50% less than what you’d pay in the US,” (10 Reasons to Move to Mexico).

Some People Enjoy Spending Time at Mexico's Beaches

5. They love the idea of going to the sandy beaches that Mexico has

Although this is not as common a reason for people to move to Mexico, the beaches are what fascinates some people about Mexico. One of the things that happens when you go to a beach is that you are able to relax properly, wind down and really let all of your stresses and anxieties go out the window. Why would you be stressed out when you are at a beach in Mexico? Mexicans are famous for their enjoyment of life and their smelling of flowers, maybe they do it even literally! Life is so precious so it makes all the sense in the world for us to enjoy this gift of life.

Final Thoughts About Moving to Mexico

These are five of the most common reasons that many people move to Mexico. Mexico’s economy is showing signs of improving and it looks like Mexico will still be a popular destination for people to move to as the years go by. Maybe you might want to move to Mexico someday after reading this. Good luck!
