At last, you seized a date with the girl of your dreams.

You know the feeling, don’t you?

This is your new opportunity to create a lasting first impression.

As the day approaches, the butterflies increase and you turn into a nervous wreck.

Questions about what to wear, what to eat and more importantly, where to go in Nairobi start to cripple your better Judgement.

How do you actually make a memorable day that’s both romantic and fun in the green city-under-the sun?

The simple answer is activities. You’re more attractive when you’re laughing and having a good time. And the best part, you’ll have something to talk about to fill those awkward moments.

When it comes to food, forget about a fancy restaurant dinner. Simply download the Uber Eats app and their restaurant-partners will take care of the yummy meals.

And as for the places, here are the best romantic getaways to breeze through within Nairobi. Who knows? You could even find yourselves talking about a second date after this.

Visit the Nairobi Safari Walk

The Nairobi Safari Walk is one of the best spots for romantic walks. It is located 7 kilometers south of the city. This place offers a creative landscape that features Kenya’s three ecosystems. These include savannah, wetlands, and forestry.

The wooden boardwalk provides great views of wildlife including the white rhino, rare bongo, leopards, lions, cheetahs and monkeys. You also get to explore over 150 local tree species.

Some fun activities you could do together include taking a late afternoon stroll or going on a game drive. You could even find a quiet spot under the shade of the enormous green trees away from the crowds and share a crispy KFC bucket.

Have Fun at Climb BlueSky

Throw caution to the wind and suggest something spontaneous to your date like an indoor rock climbing session at Climb BlueSky. Using a climbing gym as a first date destination could be your greatest idea to mix exercise and fun. You might even get a sense of your date’s personality.

The Climb BlueSky is the only indoor climbing and bouldering gym in the country. It is located at Diamond Plaza in Parklands. You will find multiple climbing walls and overhangs with routes for beginners. You could even be sharing an experience that is new to both of you. After this, have some healthy smoothies from Terra delivered to you.

Indulge in a Go Karting experience

Another way of taking fun to the next level on your first date is to go karting. I know, we refer to the sport as GP Karting but that’s just the company that founded it in 1996. The sport involves driving a specialized motorcar on an indoor track.

You don’t need to have a prior driving experience to enjoy it. Just remember to use your right foot to accelerate and your left to brake.

The GP Karting is situated off Langata road, next to Splash Waterworld. To get there, could either drive or take an Uber. However, try something daring such as picking a matatu plying Langata road. Then alight at the Carnivore stage and take a leisurely walk to GP Karting while having a good conversation.

Once you’re done with GP Karting, you can order delicious bhajias and chicken wings from Maritas as you share your experiences. You could also go to the Carnivore Restaurant for some nyama choma and ugali.

Hike on the Oloolua Nature Trail

Let’s face it, Karura forest has been overdone. Maybe your date has already gone out on another date here. The Oloolua nature trail is a hidden gem past the Karen Blixen Museum.

The 5-Kilometer long nature trail is a haven of indigenous trees and a perfect escape from city noise. It is the ideal place for a relaxed picnic setting with your date. The Mbagathi river flows through the forest hence the thick forest vines and undergrowth. You could explore the 33-Meter long Mau Mau cave using a flashlight to check out some underground caverns where our freedom fighters used to hide in. However, beware of a bat colony that reigns within.

You will also marvel at the 20-foot waterfall at the forest entrance and go past a wooden tower used for viewing the crowned eagle’s nest before migrating online. The hikes let you get to know your partner at the sounds of trickling water, chirping birds and blue-green butterflies to lull you into a romantic mood.

Go horseriding

To be honest, you have to ask your date about this one. You would not want your partner to have allergies and turn the date into a stuffy-nosed and sneezing affair.

However, horseback riding is a sweet and thoughtful gesture. It rather conjures up images of dueling knights and rescued damsels from fantasy novels. You can fulfill this fantasy at Achi’s Stables Lounge.

It is located off Forest Edge road, just a short drive past the Bomas of Kenya. Before riding, you can hang out at the gazebo. Then charm the horses with some carrots to pet them. Remember to stay calm as you mount the horse. This is because they sense the vibes you’re giving off. Use the reins to guide the way and you can head into the forest.

You will also find a picnic site where you can throw down your kikoi and use Uber Eats to have some delicious food delivered right there. End things on a sweet note by adding dessert on your order. Spoiling your date with ice cream always works.

Be on the lookout for cheeky baboons trying to grab something. Baboons have a tendency to fearlessly attack women but they fear and respect men. There is your chance to be the protector, her knight in invincible armor.

Over to You....

Dating should be fun be adventurous when picking the location. At the end of the day, what truly counts is that you both enjoyed yourselves. This way, even if you don’t end up together, you will both have the sweetest memories of your romantic out together.

Please share your experience on how to make your first date memorable.

These are certainly unusual locations for a first date. The timing of your article a few days after Valentine's day is appropriate.
