5 Top Tips for Having the Most Adventurous Holiday Ever

Updated on January 20, 2017

Are you tired of the everyday routine? Do you daydream about going on an adventure, exploring new areas, and trying out new and different things? Adventurous holidays have been rising in popularity in the past years, and for good reason. People don’t just want to go to an exotic destination and sleep in their hotel rooms; they want to explore their surroundings and experience different cultures to the fullest. If you’re dreaming about having an unforgettable adventurous holiday soon, here is what you need to know.

Embrace the inconvenience

Snow storms, heavy rains, and even a possibility to be robbed can seem like a pretty good reason to give up this trip. To fully experience an adventure, however, you should have an open mind and lots of energy. Occasional bumps in the road are to be expected, you are leaving your comfort zone behind you after all, but they don’t have to ruin your day. if you fear thieves try carrying your wallet and documents in a purse around your neck, and if you get lost try not to panic. Instead of freaking out see this as an opportunity to discover hidden parts of the area and connect with locals.

Try something new

Going to a whole new country or even a part of your own country you have never been to before is a chance to try something new as well. Did you even consider bungee jumping, paragliding, or surfing? While for bungee jumping and paragliding you one needs to rent equipment, for sports like surfing and skateboarding you can get your own equipment in renowned shops such as Natural Necessity. When you have your own equipment, you don’t have to worry about damaging it and paying for it afterwards, and you will be able to practice for as long as you’d like.

Be prepared

Travelling abroad is exciting because you get to experience different cultures and learn something new. Where are you going? Are there any customs there that are important for you to know before you even get there? Imagine finding a wonderful ancient mosque somewhere and not being able to go in because you’re in your shorts? Or imagine dining with the locals and they start burping loudly because that shows that they enjoy their meal, how would you feel? Learn as much as you can before you go somewhere because other cultures are full of surprises.

Document your trip

How will you remember your trip in a couple of years? Will you remember all of the museums, galleries, and restaurants you were in? Take your camera with you and make plenty of photos of your companions and of your surroundings. Save the tickets to museums and aquariums you visited, and buy a trinket from time to time so that you have something to remind you of the wonderful time you’ve had.

Make connections

Adventures are great because you get to do a lot of it on your own, but they are even better when you have help. Make connections before your trip, ask your friends and relatives if they know someone who has already been to the place where you’re heading and if they can recommend you to do or try anything. This way you will get to know more people and do things you might not otherwise remember to do. Befriending locals is also a great way to get to know the best restaurants and bars which are usually cheap and offer great food and drinks.
