Niks is a travel bird, who has the ambition to explore the globe. He shares some of the offbeat travel destinations in India.

Today, as I walked through my memory lane, I found tulips by the side of the road. Yes, they signaled me to come and visit them again and again. One of the quick mood changers of a human is food, a good nap and the view of the "flowers".
Tulips are available in various colors. every color has its own significance.
Though having its roots in Turkey and Persia,
When you say tulips the first name comes to you is "Netherlands".
These flowers require a wintry climate for rooting.
Apart from red, yellow, or pink, tulips come in a wide range of colors that can be black, maroon, cream, orange as well as multicolored. There is a unique significance of each color.
There are about 3000 official varieties of tulips.

Tulips and Bollywood

Keukenhof is the most famous and largest flower park in the world which is in the Netherlands.
'Indians have a special memory with this garden.
Some part of the all-time evergreen Bollywood song " Dekha ek khwab toh ye silsile hue" picturized on superstar Amitab Bacchan and renowned actress Rekha from the film "Silsila"
is being shot at this location in the Netherlands. When I first watched the video of this song, I was like "where on Earth this place could be? I would love to visit it someday". By then I asked my parents about this place and they told me the locations used for this song. Some part of the song is shot at Pahalgam, Kashmir. Kashmir is one of the great places for tulips, which I visited in 2008. I wanted to see the world-famous garden in the Netherlands someday.

My Journey

After so many years, my dream was coming true. I was ready with my traveling visa to take off towards one of my dream destinations, "Keukenhof Tulip Garden!" As our coach bus entered the Netherlands, I could see the scenic view of fields. The Netherlands is famous for the Windmills. The sight of the landscapes with windmills is the Dutch treasure. Dutch people are fitness freak. There were a lot of fitness gyms. There is a separate track allotted for bicycle riders. you can see tall people riding bicycles throughout the Netherlands. While I was canal cruising, I saw a three-storeyed cycle stand full of cycles. Another attraction here is the beautiful canals. The Netherlands is enriched with bicycles, tulips, windmills, and canals. When we arrived at the world's largest spring garden, we were very excited. Keukenhof is the most famous flower park in the world which is in the Netherlands.
I was stunned by the eye-catching view of Tulips, daffodils and other flowers. I liked the mind-blowing theme of the gardens. The theme changes every year! That was an awe-inspiring moment for me. We walked through various pavilions of this park. We had fun walking through a maze. One of the most adventurous parts of our walk in the park was walking on the wooden surfaces to cross the pond. People were grabbing selfies and clicking pictures of the sparkling fountain, swimming ducks and swans. I wish I had a DSLR camera with me. I was so much involved in gazing at the lovely colors of nature that I literally failed to take any pictures on my phone for the 80% of my journey. I just wanted to treasure the alluring tulips forever in my eyes, mind, and heart. Yes, and I did. Now, after 4 months I can remember these memories and imagine that I m still standing there with child-like excitement and enthusiasm. Another amazing thing was a traditional windmill. That was my first experience to see how a dutch windmill looks from inside. As we climbed up we got an exceptional view of Keukenhof gardens, which I can't describe in words.

Best Time to go

Stephen Richardo says, "minds are like flowers, they open only when the time is right." When it comes to tulips in the Netherlands, their season starts from March and tourists can spot them until May. To be more specific, you must visit anywhere from mid-march to mid-may, to enjoy the view of fresh and fully blossoming tulips. So this is the most awaited season among the tourists across the globe to fly to the Netherlands. They book their tickets months before this season begins, to witness the heavenly sight of Tulips.

Oh, how beautiful! Thanks for sharing your photos and impressions of the Keukenhof tulip garden with us. Not to compare with that garden, but we used to grow tulips when we lived in Wisconsin. Unfortunately, it does not get cold enough in the winter for them to grow in Houston. We do enjoy getting cut tulip flower bouquets, however when they are in bloom.

I still remember visiting these gardens on my first visit to Amsterdam. We had to get a train to Leiden and then a bus, but it was well worth it for the experience.
