A Trip to the Inn at Middleton Place in Charleston, South Carolina
The Inn at Middleton Place is located just outside of Charleston on Ashley River Road. Before staying there, I had read mixed reviews about Middleton Place so I wasn't sure what to expect. I was very pleasantly surprised when we arrived. The grounds are stunning and the actual building where the rooms are located are really interesting. They are covered in vines and have huge floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook the river. Just the area that features the actual hotel and restaurant was amazing.
A Perfect Winter Escape
Each room has a wood-burning fireplace which was so much fun because it was near freezing at night during our stay. Outside of the rooms are piles of covered firewood that is replenished daily. When the rooms are made up each day, a new starter block and newspaper for a getting a fire going is left next to the fireplace. They also clean out your fireplace each morning for you.
One of the best parts of staying at the Inn is the free admission you get to the Middleton Place next door. The Middleton Place used to be a rice plantation but now you can tour it (either on your own or with a group) and the gardens are simply amazing. We spent hours wandering around because there was just so much to see.
