A-Van Caravan / Camper Trailer

Updated on February 14, 2015

A-Van Caravan / Camper Trailer

Is it a caravan, or a camper trailer? A-Van merges the boundaries with their new, well appointed RV.

If you have only ever been camping in a tent or camper trailer you may be surprised to know that there is an alternative available which is half way between a camper trailer and a caravan which provides many of the comforts of home.

Have your say...

A-Van Australia

A-Van Australia have put a lot of thought into their range of camper trailers, or are they caravans? I was pleasantly surprised to find that they are very well appointed inside, much like a caravan, but you can of course fold down the sides and A frame roof for travelling which makes it look much more like a camper trailer.

So you get the benefits of both worlds – a low aerodynamically designed camper so that you save money on your fuel costs while towing, with all the comforts of a small caravan when you arrive at your destination. All you would really need to pack is your clothes, pillows, towels and bed linen.

I was fortunate enough to have a very thorough look inside one of these A-Van campers when a friend of ours bought one recently (and lived in it for 6 months while their house was being built), and I can honestly say I was very impressed. Laurie and David were also very happy with their purchase and could find no fault with any part of the design or construction. They also plan to take it away on extended trips in the future travelling through Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland.

I also got the opportunity to have a look through the latest models at a caravan and camping show and found the A-Van camper trailer to be well appointed with lots of functional features which provide a very good level comfort for 2 people. It is easy to hitch up and once you get to your camp site or caravan park, it can be set up in just a few minutes.

I think the design is brilliant for a couple wanting a relaxed lifestyle and an easy to tow rig. The kitchen table also folds down to allow for extra bedding if the grandchildren have a sleepover, but it would probably be a little crowded on rainy days.

Towing a Caravan or Camper Trailer

It is very important to make sure your vehicle is capable of towing any camper trailer or caravan before you consider making a purchase. To do this, simply have a look in the ‘owners handbook’ which is normally located in the glove box of your car, and turn to the page where it says ‘towing capacity’.

If the towing capacity is higher than the weight of the camper trailer, then you are probably OK to tow the camper, but remember you must add the weight of all your personal items to the overall weight of the camper. If in any doubt at all, consult the manager of the dealership where you are considering buying your camper, or a dealership which sells your make and model of car.
