A Walking Tour of Marseilles France

Updated on December 4, 2010

Photos for A Friend

November 11, 2010

This Hub is being produced in response to a request from our new friends David and Sue in England.

My wife, Bella, and I met them on our recent Mediterranean cruise and shared some good times with them on that cruise.

On that cruise we embarked from Barcelona, Spain on Monday and for the next six days made a stop at a different port city each day beginning with Tunis the capital of the North African nation of Tunisia and continuing on to Valetta the capital of the island nation of Malta, then to Mesina in Sicily, Rome, Genoa and Marseilles. Our trip ended seven days later in Barcelona.

Our friends had boarded in Genoa, Italy two days before us and ran into a heavy rain when they docked in Marseilles.  As a result they stayed on the ship and missed that port.

My wife and I, on the other hand, had beautiful weather  when we docked in Marseilles a week later so i promised that I would share my photos with our new friends.  Instead of trying to upload this many photos to an email, I decided to publish them on HubPages instead especially since I had planned to write Hubs and publish my photos of our adventures on this trip anyway.

So here are photos from our walking tour of Marseilles.

      Beautiful pictures. Great. voted up:)

I remember many years ago I was walked to Marseilles. I was on my way from northern Germany to Barcelona, where I took a ferry to Mallorca. Together with my mate Marco I reached the city. The first impression was, it's loud and it is hectic. Many mopeds drove around very quickly. Many horns resounded. Traffic noise, screaming from all directions. Apparently there were no traffic laws. Vehicles crossed, no matter whether the traffic light was green or red. This was very unusual for me. Very new. Very different.

France is a beautiful country to visit. I travelled through it back in the mid 80's and have some great memories. Thanks for re-igniting them!

I am enjoying your holiday right along with you and your wife. Thank for taking time out for sharing. I studied French in High school, our teacher was French and spoke the language better than most Americans!
