A Waterworld in the Desert: Abu Dhabi's Yas Waterworld!
Tucked away from many locals is Abu Dhabi's, Yas Waterworld, where sand has been replaced with a water theme park equal to anything, anywhere. Costing millions, the water theme park opened with a ticket cost of 225 in local money, per person. The park is over 43 hectares planted in between two major highways and is favorite of Westerners. In fact, while you are there, go see Gun n' Roses or Metallica, their playing there (wonder how much they are charging to travel half way around the world to play a set of hard rock?).
They have some awesome rides like, the world’s largest surfable wave of nine feet and 1,250-horsepower pumps pushing 2,400 gallons of water per second. The Dawwama is a 60 ft.high funnel where a group of six slam around like a tornado, get ready to get wet. The Liwa Loop is a first in the Middle East. You occupy a seat and race around suspended in air to feel the hot wind of the desert. What waterpark is not without the slides. But these slides are some of the longest in any theme park and there are, Hamlool's Humps, which will will send you airborne for seconds as zip down at 50 mph. Having been to Raging Waters, their slides take seconds to go down and you are never airborne. Going airborne would pose some potential thrills and dangers!
Abu Dhabi is just across from Iran, separated from it by the Persian Gulf. The waterpark just opened and is frequented by many US defense personnel and US Navy. Bahrain, where the US 5th Fleet is docked, is just down the road from it.
