A Quick Tour at Luxurious Versace Mansion
I think we all here familiar with Gianni Versace. He is a famous designer who shot dead on the steps of the house in July 1997. He left a luxurious Mansion called Casa Casuarina. It’s a place where Versace was shot to death on the front porch. And the killer, Andrew Cunanan believed had killed Versace and four other people before he shot himself in the head on the floor on a houseboat in Miami Beach, where he hid to avoid the police after had shot Versace. Before Versace death more than a decade ago, his celebrity friends stayed so often and enjoy the beauty of the house.
Gianni Versace in memorian
The house was built in 1930 by an architect, writers, philanthropic, and politicians namely Alden Freeman. Actually the design of the house was inspired by the oldest house in the western Hemisphere. This house was modeled after the Alcazar de Colon in Santo Domingo. A residence built in 1510 by the son of Christopher Columbus. Versace bought the house for a cheap-by-comparison $2.9 million in 1992 and he spent of $ 33 million to renovate and add improvements such as widening of the south wing of the house and garden. He former bedroom has a nine-foot-wide bed, two balconies, seven closets .The renovation included a 54ft-long mosaic-tiled pool lined with 24-carat gold, a golden-tiled kitchen and Versace's brand logo. Based on the history the design was inspired by a Versace scarf. It was created in Italy, but it broken down. And then shipped in numbered sections and reassembled here. We can see the Versace brand logo shaped a huge Medusa mosaic, in the courtyard. Since the murder, tourists have flocked to the Casa Casuarina. They went to this house to pay their respects to the famed designer and to admire the gorgeous architecture. Outside, they flock to the cast-iron gates and taking pictures. They truly sense its magnificence though it is not until they enter. We can see this from the video below and the pictures as well.
From the Versace’s house, we can pass through the limestone arch, into the courtyard of Casa Casuarina. The trickle of water from a fountain, every inch of this place and the details is enhanced by the home's lavishness. We can see the Versace's touches are everywhere. It started from the Medusa head logo (which is seen in gold), in stone mosaics, railings and gate, even on shower drains.
Finally this property was put up for sale and sold to telecommunications billionaire, namely Peter Loftin for $19 million in 2000. Loftin has slowly made the estate more public and maintaining all of the Versace touches. He decided to convert the 11 bathroom house, the 10 bedroom into a boutique hotel and an exclusive members-only club, where the guests will be charged of $2,500 a night. Another site said that during in the peak winter season the price of three of the 10 rooms charge for $1,200 (plus 13 percent tax and 22 percent service charge). Even the owner's suite, it charged for $10,000 nightly. The menu, like salads, pasta and a bottle of water will be charged about $120. The cheaper price is in summer. This information was taken in 2008.
The hotel name is Casa Casuarina aka Versace House. The hotel is located at 1116 Ocean Dr., Miami Beach, FL 33139 (USA). It has wide about 19,000-square-foot. The category is luxury hotel and 5-star hotel rating. Room rate is $1,200 in low season and $3,995 in high season. The hotel management provides free shuttle service from Miami Airport and the guest granted temporary membership to the private club during their stay. The facilities include dining room, garden, spa and pool.
But I don’t know why Loftin was forced to close down this hotel. This happened in 2009. I heard that one of the investor was arrested for running big money. He decided to reopened this hotel and made a little “makeover” by restaurateur Barton G Weiss. The new name was 'The Villa by Barton G'. It was modeled on a Roman palazzo and filled by stained glass, fountains, frescoes, a pool and terrace tiled in thousands of colorful mosaics. Another features are king or custom double king size beds, expansive closet space, Italian marble over sized bathrooms completed with two shower heads, sitting areas or separate living rooms and balcony or patios as well. But after 12 years, Loftin wishes to sell the property. This mansion is up for sale at $125 million.
Yesterday I read the local newspaper, with a big headline. It said “Gianni Versace House for Sale with the Price of $125 million”. Wow…it’s a big money for the mansion. I had never heard about this mansion if I didn’t read the newspaper. The visitors believed this place as the iconic of luxurious houses in the middle of South Beach. Because this house created by a genius, that is contain of history and art as well from the hands of famous designer.
