ATLANTIS - GREAT FAMILY VACATION

Updated on March 8, 2013

Harborside at the Atlantis

ATLANTIS – THE PLACE FOR EVERYONE YOUNG & OLD

Have you ever wanted to go on vacation to place where the whole family will have fun? Harborside at the Atlantis is the place you are looking for. It is like having all the amenities of home but in a tropical and exciting environment. Located across the harbor from the Atlantis resort sits a small development of brightly colored building and large pool overlooking Nassau Harbor. The resort allows flexibility for a couple, family, extended family, and friends to enjoy their time together.

Harborside is a timeshare resort by Starwood. My family and I have been going there for the last 19 years on February break. There are one, two, and three bedroom units. There is plenty of space for everyone. Our kids have always taken friends and had other families come along. Harborside gives families the ability to have plenty of room instead of being stuck in a hotel room. It offers a way to save money by not having to eat out for every meal. Make sure when renting ask if there are any extra expenses not included in the price. It is usually better to rent from a resort owner which you can find easily on timeshare websites.

The resort is separate from the Atlantis but has all the use privileges at the hotel. The timeshare boasts a huge pool with a kiddie pool. There is a pool attendant giving out Atlantis bracelets and pool towels. The Atlantis bracelets are given out every day so that the eimployees know that you belong to the resort and have the rights to the facility. Kids and adults can play shuffleboard, pool, or workout in the exercise area. There is a food shack and a great open air restaurant that overlooks the Nassau Harbor. We bring a small rolling cooler so we can bring our own drinks to the pool or to the Atlantis. The resort offers a shuttle to the grocery store where you can pick up drinks and food. It makes life a little easier having a kitchen. We pack up our own snacks and drinks and bring it to the pool. Shuttle service runs constantly between all the Atlantis hotels for drop off and pickup back to Harborside. But you can take a scenic walk along the Atlantis harbor to view the yachts that are docked and then stroll up through the shops and restaurants to get to the Atlantis.

Once at the Atlantis, you will be amazed at what you will find. The Beach Tower is the oldest and the farthest from the new waterpark. It has a great kids pool along with the lazy river. It has aquariums in the caves that you can walk through. Everywhere you walk you find something of interest. There are pools with sharks, manta rays, and various other fish. The Beach tower also houses more kid friendly activities and eating facility. If you head down the long hall towards the Coral Towers that will lead you past the free movie theater, comedy club, and a few of the more gourmet restaurants. Once you reach the Coral Towers that is where you can hit the casino or shop in some of the more exclusive shops such as Gucci, Cole Haan, Versace, etc. The Childrens Discovery Club is for small children to have fun and for the adults to be able to have a little time for themselves. There is a library that you can go online (30 minutes free use per person) or borrow a book. Play chess or take a game back to the room. If you head down the staircase that will lead you out towards the beach and more pools. There are some smaller waterslides for the kids and more adult pools. Through the casino, you will end up now in the Royal Towers. This is where all the waterslides, spa, and health club. The shopping has some reasonable gift stores and then the more opulent stores. The “Big Dig” is in this building as you walk down the spiral staircase. There you can find the largest manta ray in the Carribbean along with sharks and other sea creatures. You walk through tunnels that display Old Atlantis and the sea creatures. The kids will enjoy a touch tank that has a few harmless creatures for them. As you come out of the building you will be now beach level. To the right, you will head back towards the casino. Take a left and you will be headed to the Atlantis Waterpark. The “Leap of Faith” and a corkscrew waterslide will be fun for all. On the right side of the Mayan Temple, you will find two waterslides where you can race your friends or find who has the fastest time. Continue on and you will come on the newest water adventure. The Power Tower contains two slides that you sit on tubes for. These feed out into the “Rapid Ride”. It’s great fun for the whole family. There are many places to get on and off the ride to catch some food and sun. As you travel to past the Royal Towers, you will come to the Power Tower, rocking climbing wall, and the Dolphin experience as you travel up to The Cove. This is the high end place to stay. The rooms are ocean view and are large. Bobby Flay’s restaurant - “The Mesa” is here along with several other restaurants. The pool area has beds in the middle of it – more an adult only at night. There is a kid section but it is more of a couples area. The beach has lounge chairs and some with coverings. You will find the natives roaming the beach selling jewelry, beach wraps, drinks, jet skis, parasailing, banana boats, and selling day trips off the resort.

Harborside offers the best of everything. It has plenty of room for families to spread out and not be subjected to everybody’s sleeping habits. You can save money by cooking and keeping light on your luggage because it unit has a washer and dryer. The location is great because you are close to the action but can also have some quiet time back at the timeshare pool. You are in walking distance of restaurants. Restaurants like Carmines, Murrays, Bahama Breeze, and the Marketplace buffet. You also have Dominos, Quiznos, and Double Dragon that deliver. The ferry is across the street from the Blue Lagoon – easy walk from Harborside. The pier has other tour activities for whale watching, speed boats, dolphin excursions, and many other tours. The ferry takes you over to Nassau where there is the straw market and plenty of eating places. The pirate museum is pretty cool. Great eating places too. If you want to go on vacation and have something for everyone - this is the place!

Update: Just came back from Harborside and had a wonderful time. The weather was great for the first half of the week and then it turned cold. Real cold! Never had this happen in 13 years. Still would rather be there then in 2ft of snow. Harborside had just resurfaced their pool and hot tub. We also got watch a sailboat try to go under the bridge and snap its mast. Pretty incredible. The pools and waterslides were great. The beach was wonderful with the crystal blue water and had a great time on the jetskis. The restaurant reviews - Anthony's for breakfast and lunch were good, Marketplace in Atlantis -not worth the price I would skip it and go to the Cove for a buffet if that is what you want. Originally it was a great place but the ham and beef were dried out and it was just cafeteria quality of food. Don't waste your money, better places to go. We also dined at the Point at Harborside and the service and food was good. Carmine's and Luciano's was excellent and always leftovers for the next day. Dominos delivery was great for one night when nobody wanted to leave the room. We went to a new place called Caprizzo's in Nassau which served Italian food and was very good and plenty of food. The only strange thing was the waitress asked for an extra tip which I found very odd. Johnny Rockets was also good and had a fun atmosphere. My daughter is ready to go back for April vacation. My kids never get tired of vacationing at Harborside and they look forward everytime!
